-look at what other people do
-look at what you like
-find reviews and critiques of what other people do
-figure out how other people do good work and what makes it good
-do that except with your own spin (hardest part)
-practice
Yeah that's pretty much how I started writing except I started writing video game stories first (some of which will become books) before writing book stories.
