There, but not There & The Soul Burner - Two lost short stories

Short Tale 4 – There, but not There
If you go on the internet and look up the town of Blissful Falls, you will only find talk about the town and a satellite image of a white spot on the earth. Some say that the town was wiped from existed because of the government. Others say it has to do with otherworldly forces and some say it has to do with paranormal entities. There are people that go there to investigate it. Few make it out and even fewer escape without being completely changed. The people that escape tell tales of monsters and a twisted reality. Items brought back from the town are said to turn to ash once removed. Pictures that are taken from inside of it blacken once they leave the town.
A military force went in to investigate and only half came out. They left the town without the weapons, armor, and vehicles that they went in with. They told similar stories of horror like the others, which confirmed that this town is a place that no one should be in. Governments around the world have sent unmanned and unmarked drones to investigate the town, but they are always destroyed once they enter it. A mercenary pilot was said to have been paid by a powerful individual to bomb the town, but once the bombs entered the town, they didn’t detonate nor were they discovered.
This town is indeed mysterious. Go around it if you can. If you don’t, you might see something too horrible to be seen.

Short Tale 5 – The Soul Burner
They say you get judged after death, but what happens if you get judged before then? A man, whose sins were said to rival the devils, is rumored to have instantly combusted when he entered a church. Everything in him burned to a crisp, and yet, he lived. His soul was said to have been cleansed at the cost of his body. He is said to have been tasked with purifying others as he was purified.
Legends tell of a man made of ash that blends in with the darkness with one black coal-like eye and one burning red eye. He appears to sinners who were like him at night or in places of complete darkness. You can’t kill him nor can you run away because he always appears close enough to touch you. When he touches these people, they burn like he does from the inside out then they will either burn to ash or be purified and healed of their burns. Once that is done, the man of ash disappears completely. People, who report their experiences of this man, are active members of their communities who dedicate their lives to help people. This man of ash appears every now and then to burn those who are like him. He is not the judge nor the jury. He is just an executioner with a will to purify souls through fire.

  1. Great little tales. I especially like the second one, though both have potential to be developed. Good luck with your writing. V. L. Murray Freelance Editor, Author
