Choice and Consequence:
Love and Fury (Scrapped Story)
Few love stories start with the
death of another lover, but that’s how Nick and Morgan’s story started. Nick
met Morgan after he lost his wife and fell in love with her at first sight.
Once Morgan’s best friend died, who she had a crush on, Nick found her and picked
her up from her sorry state. This officially started their relationship
together and even though they may be through the worst part of their life, it
doesn’t mean things will get easier. They’re changing their lives to not fall
into their vices, but sinners are like alcoholics and drug addicts. It’s hard for
us to shake a habit and there’s a reason why bi-weekly confessions are normal.
Today’s another morning for the
couple as they get ready for another relaxing day. Nick’s career as a boxer and
Morgan’s past career as a doctor leaves them comfortably wealthy in a safe
neighborhood, which is rare in a city like Hillside City that’s notorious for
its crime and weird people. They watch TV together on the couch while eating
cereal for breakfast.
“Are we going to run out for groceries?”
Morgan asks.
“If you think we need to. I just
have to bring my mask with me if people start bothering us,” Nick answers.
“Yeah, bring it just in case. I
hate it when other girls start hitting on you.”
“I’m used to it, but it’s a good
thing you’re best friends with the chief of police because people probably
think I’m crazy with it on.”
“You know the masks that you make
are really good. Did you do lots of arts and crafts with your parents?”
“No. I just like making them as a
past-time.”
“Have you thought about doing different
designs? I love the ones you’ve made, but they all have the split emotion face
on them.”
“Nah, I like the style I got going.
It’s my own style that no one else really does. Anyways, do you want to go?
Probably better to go early in the morning when there aren’t that many people
there.”
Morgan puts her cereal to the side
as she climbs over to where Nick is while putting his cereal to the side.
“To be honest, I’d rather just stay
here with you for the whole day like this.” Morgan sits on Nick’s lap and puts
her arms around his head while looking into his eyes. “What do you think?”
“I think your best friend is right
about you being just as horny as her.”
“What?! No, I’m not.”
“Says the cougar who hardly wears
anything around the house and tries to get me into bed or on the couch like
this when she doesn’t feel like doing anything.”
“I’m just showing you that I love you!”
“I know. I’m just wondering how
many kids you want.”
“Four, maybe five.”
“You better not act this way when
they’re around.”
“That doesn’t mean that I can’t act
this way when they aren’t around.”
“Then four or five may be nine or
ten.”
“It doesn’t bother me as long as we’re
together.”
A knock at the door momentarily
breaks the two apart as Morgan goes to answer the door.
“Hey, Harley, what are you doing
here?” Morgan asks her best friend.
“I was just in the area and wanted
to stop by to say hello-eh. Are you seriously still dressing in that miniskirt?
Can you seriously wear a bra too? No one wants to see your saggy chest leaking
out of your shirt.”
“Ah! Shut up! I’m not saggy. Besides,
I’m home alone with my husband, so I dress to impress.”
“I get it. I do the same. When are you
going to be expecting children?”
“Hopefully soon.”
“That’s good because my kids need
some friends.”
“Wha-oh, Harley! You’re pregnant?”
“Yeah. It’s about time too, right?
I plan on having at least six children. What about you?”
“Four or five.”
“You might have more with the way
you dress, you horny cougar.”
“Don’t you need to get back to work?”
“Good morning, chief!” Nick says as
he passes by the door with the empty cereal bowls to bring them to the sink.
“Good morning, Nick. Poor man
probably doesn’t get a break with you all over him.”
“We should set up a celebration for
the news of your baby.”
“How about Saturday over dinner?”
“Sounds good.”
“Okay. In the meantime, try not to
be such a-”
“Goodbye, Harley.”
“Horny cougar! Horny cougar!”
Morgan closes the door on Harley
before going back to sitting on Nick once he sits back on the couch.
“Where were we?” Morgan asks Nick
as she reassumes her position.
“She’s right about you being a horny
cougar.”
“What?! That’s not true!” Morgan
says with a pouty face.
“Alright, don’t we have to go
shopping?”
“Just give me two more minutes.”
“Two minutes turns into two hours,
so let’s go.”
Nick tries gently pushing Morgan
off.
“You know the more you push me away
the tighter I hold on?”
“Have it your way then.”
Nick picks up Morgan and carries
her laughing all the way upstairs to get dressed. Morgan messes around with
Nick as they get dressed. About thirty minutes later, they go out and hold
hands as they walk to the supermarket. The people they pass think and talk to
themselves about Nick, his boxing career, and how blessed Morgan is to be with
him. Inside the supermarket is the same with people recognizing them. Some even
come up to Nick for autographs; however, the nice mood of the day changes when
Nick and Morgan come across a man trying to steal food by putting it into his
backpack.
Nick confronts him and says, “Hey,
man, what are you doing? Put the food back.”
“Don’t snitch on me!”
“I won’t say anything if you put it
back.”
“I can hardly afford anything for
my family.”
“That doesn’t mean you should steal.”
“…okay. You got a point-”
The man takes what he has and is
about to run away, but Nick catches him, pins him to the ground, and repeatedly
beats his face in.
“Nick!” Morgan says as she puts her
hand on his shoulder to get him to stop.
Nick looks back at Morgan and is
reminded of his last wife and his old ways. He then gets up and wipes the blood
off his hands.
“I’m sorry. People like this just
get on my nerves.”
“It’s okay. It’s alright,” Morgan
says as she hugs Nick.
Because of the security footage and
Nick’s reputation, the thief is arrested while he is congratulated for catching
him. For a reward, the store gives the couple a discount on what they’re buying
today. As they’re walking back home, Nick hears the sound of a fight happening
in a nearby house. He watches the inside as a child is harshly beaten by his
parents. His blood begins to boil as bad memories come back to him. Morgan watches
Nick as his attention is completely focused on what’s happening inside the
house.
“We should call the police,” Morgan
says.
“Huh? Oh. Why should we?”
“You can’t just bust in there and
fix them yourselves.”
“Why can’t I? Harley doesn’t mind
the odd vigilante in the city or two.”
“Yeah, but that’s not you. Besides,
that look on your face makes it seem like you’re going to do more than teach
them a lesson.”
“I can’t handle trash that beat and
abuse their children.”
“Nick.”
“…okay. Let’s call the police.”
Morgan calls the police, let’s them
know who she is, and tells them what’s going on. Nick wants to stay near the
house to see the police arrest the parents, so Morgan and he wait by the house
as he keeps his eyes locked on it. Even as the police take away the parents and
their child in a separate car, Nick can’t help but feel that his rage isn’t
satisfied.
“You’re quite the hero today,”
Morgan says to break him out of his trance.
“Huh? If you say so. I didn’t do
much.”
The events of today leave Nick with
a feeling of frustration stuck in him. Seeing this, Morgan makes him relax with
the two practicing boxing, exercising, and even playing some video games. This
manages to wash away the anger stuck in Nick’s heart and calms him down. While
they eat dinner, they watch the news, and Nick’s agitation is reignited
especially when he hears about crime happening not too far from the house.
Morgan looks at Nick’s reaction that seems to be cold and angry.
“Nick? Babe?” Morgan says as she
holds him.
Nick pushes her aside as memories
of his past wife fill his head. Once he realizes that he pushed her, he says, “I’m
so sorry. I didn’t mean to-”
“No, it’s fine. You didn’t hurt me.
Come here.”
Nick and Morgan embrace as Nick tries
to calm down.
“We were so close to what happened.
I feel like I could’ve done something.”
“Let the police worry about it. It’s
in the past.”
“I-I could’ve…”
“Shhh, it’s okay.”
“…no, that isn’t me anymore.”
“Hmm?”
A reddish mist leaks out of Nick’s
mouth that quickly envelops the whole house.
“Nick? Calm down, honey.”
A monster with a split face and six
muscular arms separates them.
“Don’t you hurt my wife!” Nick says
as he fights and chases after the monster.
“Nick, don’t chase after it! Nick!”
Morgan yells out before being caught in chains and dragged into the red mist.
Morgan looks at what is dragging
her and sees a familiar monster with chains that come out of its skin, eyes,
and mouth.
“I remember you. I guess I can’t permanently
get rid of you, but I don’t have to be your slave for my whole life.”
The chains around Morgan weaken
until she’s able to get out of them. She looks back at the monster with chains
in her hands.
“I’m never going to be like you
anymore.”
She then drops the chains as the
monster retreats into the red fog. Morgan runs back to Nick by following the
sound of him fighting and finds him repeatedly beating the monster’s face in as red
fog leaks out of it. The monster’s face changes to various faces from Nick’s
past, which includes the thief, abusive parents, and the people he saw on the
news.
“You aren’t going to hurt her! Stay
away from my family!” Nick yells.
Morgan runs to him and tries to
pull Nick off the monster while saying, “You’re doing what it wants you to do,
Nick! Let it go!”
Nick slows down his punches until
he stops and looks back at Morgan.
“I’m sorry. I lost control again.”
“It’s okay. I lose control
sometimes too. Come here.”
Nick and Morgan embrace as the red
fog slowly begins to fade.
“I’m sorry this keeps happening. I’m
sorry that I keep putting you through this.”
“I’m sorry for the same, but we can
make it through it together. Isn’t that right?”
“Yeah…yeah, that’s right. Our love
can take us through any challenge.”
The red fog lifts and they appear
back in their house as if nothing happened.
Nick sighs then says, “Does this
mean I owe you tonight?”
“Haha, no. Not tonight. Just being
with you like this is enough for me.”
“That usually leads to-”
“Okay then stop me when I try anything.”
“You like that though.”
“Tch, okay. I’ll try not to like
it.”
“Haha, okay. We’ll see how that
goes. I love you, Morgan. I promise again to never do you wrong, let you go, and
help you on our way to Heaven.”
“I love you too and I promise the same.”
Nick and Morgan kiss before sitting
together and enjoying the rest of the night.
The End
