Misery and sadness are emotions that should be negated as much as possible since they often lead to a person losing hope and becoming nihilistic. It's just like anger. It's okay to be sad over something, but don't let it build up in you. Recognize that things will get better if not in this life then at least it will be in the next. Sulking in your sadness helps no one and you are only hurting yourself and the people you could be helping so pick yourself up and keep moving forward and before you know it, your bad memories will be long behind you.
