Living Star, Shining Sun - (Song/Poem Attempt #51 from An Absurd Date in An Abnormal House)

Wonderful beauty
Living star, shining sun
Let me dance with you in the sky
Let me keep you happy

Keep smiling
Keep shining on
Let your grace be known to the universe
Don’t grow cold and go dark

Living Star, Shining Sun
You are the light of my life
My guidance when the sky is dark
The one my life is tied to
The one I will love forever

Illustrious light
Living star, shining sun
Will you always rise in the morning?
Will you always be there when the night comes?

Never stop shining when you’re surrounded by darkness
Stay strong even when you start feeling weak
Lean on me when you need help
Let our lights cast out our enemies

They cannot break us apart
They cannot defeat us when we’re together

Living Star, Shining Sun
You are the light of my life
My guidance when the sky is dark
The one my life is tied to
The one I will love forever

Living Star, Shining Sun
May you shine on eternally
Let your love be known to all

Let us give warmth to those we love
Let us be the light of hope for others
Let us dance in the sky and love each other from now until forever

This song is partially inspired by Concrete Girl by Switchfoot.

An Absurd Date in an Abnormal House: Chapter 1 – Till Death Do Us Join

Chapter 1 – Till Death do us join
“This is not what I had in mind when I met her for a date,” Peter says as he looks outside the abandoned house for Rebecca.
In Peter’s mother’s will, she mentioned that one of her wishes is for Rebecca and him to be together or at least try. Rebecca is a daughter of the friend of the family that always interact with one another as if they’re blood-related family. Since he isn’t in a relationship and fondly remembers his time with Rebecca, he decided to drive all the way out to her to give her a chance, however, after some pleasant conversation about memories of the past, Rebecca took a kitchen knife and went after Peter.
“Woah! What’s wrong Rebecca?”
“I love you, Peter. I love you so much that I want to kill you!”
“Hey, watch it! What are you talking about?”
“We’ll be together forever in death. We’ll be happy forever.”
After that, Peter ran from Rebecca. He couldn’t drive away because she’s been on his heels. Only now has he managed to get some distance between them and hid in a nearby abandoned house.
“Man, I wasted the time getting all dressed up and my haircut. Where is she?” Peter wonders to himself as he looks out the window with his fists clenched.
“I found you!” Rebecca says as she pops out by the side of the window.
Peter jumps back as Rebecca breaks through the window. Now in a mode of self-defense, Peter fights Rebecca, takes the knife from her hand, throws it away, then holds her hands against the wall to restrain her.
“Stop this already! Let’s talk it out!”
Rebecca tries biting at Peter’s face.
“Rebecca!”
“Haha, you don’t know how much I hate you, but how much I want to kiss you.”
“Tell me why. What happened to you?”
“I’m in love.”
In the side of Peter’s vision, he sees that the broken window is now fixed.
“What the?”
This distraction allows Rebecca to lean in and give Peter a passionate kiss on his lips. Both he and Rebecca are stunned as they look at each other not knowing what to do next. Suddenly, the house starts to change to a familiar setting.
“Why does this look like my mom’s house?” Peter asks himself.
A steel rod then goes through the stomach of Peter and Rebecca. This rod then becomes a connecting force for them that they can’t break with their hands. Peter’s strength is taken away from him while Rebecca isn’t affected.
“Hello, Peter and Rebecca, or should I say husband and wife?” a female voice in the house says.
“Who are you?” Peter asks.
“Nobody that you should concern yourself with. You should instead focus on being with each other. Here, Rebecca.” A rug moves by itself and gives Rebecca back her knife. “Do what you know is right and kill him, so you can live together forever in happiness.”
Rebecca creepily smiles and stands still while Peter tries to slightly move away but is unable to.
“Don’t listen to that voice, Rebecca. We don’t need to die to live happily together. This isn’t right at all.”
With her knife, Rebecca tries to slash and cut the string connecting them.
“Can you cut it?”
“No, I can’t.”
“We’ll find something to cut it. There has to be a way out of this place, or we could make one-”
“This is perfect.”
“What?”
Rebecca starts slashing at Peter until he grabs her hand. His weakened state makes it difficult to push her away, so he starts backing away and up the stairs with the house closing its wall in on them. He keeps backing up to see that the walls behind him are closing in as well. To avoid being closed in, he opens the door to a small room that he has to duck into to enter. When they’re in the room, both Rebecca and Peter become children.
It’s suddenly years ago when they were children. They look out the small window in the room to look at the beach, ocean, and clear blue sky.
“We should live down here when we get older,” Peter says.
“That’s a great idea! We could go down to the shore and having a picnic every day then!” Rebecca says.
“I don’t think we could eat down there when it rains or storms.”
“Then we’ll build a camp down there, so we don’t get wet or anything.”
“What about the waves?”
“We’ll have defenses set up to protect us!”
“What about the seagulls?”
“I’ll shoot them down myself if they bother us! Why are you asking so many questions?”
“I’m just concerned about everything that may ruin our dream.”
“Well don’t worry about it because together we can accomplish anything!”
“Wait, that’s not what was said.”
“What? That’s a great idea! We could go down to the shore and having a picnic every day then!”
“We could build our house down there!”
“Yeah! But wouldn’t the house sink into the sand?”
“Oh yeah. No, wait don’t you want to build the house on top of the sand or some other kind of foundation?”
“I don’t know.”
The memory of the past begins to fade as the present comes back to its proper place in their mind.
“What happened?” Peter asks.
“This is just a small taste of the joys that will await you. You can relive the memories of your choosing and live them again, but you can also change them so that they can be better than you remember,” the voice in the house says.
“How? Did we really go back to the past?”
“No, it all happened in your mind, but it feels so real. Isn’t it worth it just to live your best moments again and again?”
“No, it isn’t.”
“You may not agree with me, but Rebecca will, isn’t that right?”
“Yes! Nothing would be better to live out my memories over and over with him!”
“There we go. Enjoy yourselves in the room you spent so many summers in.”
The room itself is one large bed with a small closet and a TV with a cable box and gaming console near the door. It’s a relatively small room with only one way in and out. Rebecca keeps pushing Peter further and further into the room as she tries to push the knife into chest. His strength isn’t allowing him to push her away as Rebecca’s murderous intent is giving her the edge in the struggle. He is backed into the corner of the room and the struggle is at a standstill. Rebecca lunges forward to push the knife into Peter’s chest, but misses, however, the knife is very close to his chest.
She leans in and kisses him on the lips again. She holds this kiss while trying to stab him, but she keeps missing and stabs the wall repeatedly until she strikes something fleshy.
“Ow!” the voice in the house says as a small door in the ceiling opens.
The door opening gets Rebecca to loosen her hold on Peter. He uses this opportunity to knock her out or at least he hits her hard enough for her not to move much.
“Go ahead and kill her, Peter. If you do so, you may be able to have more control over the memories you’ll share so they can play out the way you want them too.”
“I’ll pass.”
“Aww. Do you still care for her even though she’s been trying to kill you? You truly are her true love.”
Peter carries Rebecca to the door in the ceiling and their memory of a starlit night takes over the present reality. The two are children once again and have brought up snacks and soda to enjoy another cool summer night with each other.
“The stars look so beautiful,” Rebecca says.
“You always say that when you look at them,” Peter points out.
“Well, that’s because they are, and I’ll say it another thousand times until I get one! I’ve already asked my mom and dad and they said I’ll get me one when I get older, but I can’t wait that long!”
“Why would you want a star?”
“I’d get one to light up my room and since my mom and dad say they’re really hot we can make roasted marshmallows and maybe cook other things. Just imagine how things taste when you cook them with a star.”
“Is that all?”
“Maybe I would get a star to give to people who need one. Don’t you want one?”
“No, I’m fine without them.”
“Why? Don’t you think they’re the most beautiful things ever?”
“No.”
“What could be more beautiful than the stars?”
“I think you are.”
Peter tries to appear confident while holding in the little bit of embarrassment within him as Rebecca blushes.
“D-do you really think so?”
“Why wouldn’t I? Every time I look in your eyes, I see a beautiful star that shines brighter than any star.”
“You didn’t say that.”
“That’s what I meant.”
“I know you did, but it came out more awkward.”
Peter and Rebecca are still caught up in their moment despite being somewhat conscious about it. They then embrace while watching the stars. All the sugar causes them to fall asleep with Rebecca embracing Peter. The roof of the house then tilts downward which forces them off it. They fall to the ground and become adults again. Peter looks back to see that the house appears to be monstrous with multiple arms with every window being an eye.
The house says, “You can live in these memories for all eternity if you kill each other now.”
“That’s not going to happen!”
“Then I’ll kill you both!”
The house then moves by itself with its many hands dragging it across the concrete. Since Rebecca is still woozy from being hit with the fall from the house keeping her dazed, Peter lifts her up and carries her to the beach while running away from the house. Since he’s feeling weak, he can’t run very fast while carrying her. Still, he manages to keep a safe distance away until they reach the beach where the house sinks under the sand. The long hands from the house try to make it claw it out of the sand while trying to grab the two, but it is unable to as Peter continues to run away. He falls on the ground. They’re both children again and run into the water and play in it before sitting in the sand.
“I wish the summer would never end. We never really see each other much outside of it,” Rebecca says.
“I wish we could see each other more too. When we grow up, we should definitely live with one another so we can see each other every day,” Peter says.
“But what about now? We don’t live too far away from one another, but it’s going to be a while before we see each other again.”
Peter tries to hide his sadness.
“Peter?”
“We’ll always be together no matter the distance if we keep each other in our hearts. I’ll always keep you in my mind and prayers, so I’ll never forget you and the promises I made.”
“Me too. I’ll do the same!”
Peter and Rebecca embrace with tears in their eyes but a smile on their face. They are then turned back into adults.
“That’s why I have to kill you. I never want you to leave me again.”
Rebecca puts her hands around Peter’s neck and tries to strangle him to death as they both sink in the sand.
“Rebecca…please…”
Seeing Peter in pain causes her to let go of his neck. Once she does, the sand under them disappears and they appear back in the house.
“I see that you won’t kill Peter the slow way and I understand. It’s difficult to kill the one you love the most in a way that causes them pain, but don’t you worry Rebecca, I have many more tools that you can use,” the voice in the house says.
Rebecca begins to cry then laugh at the same time. Meanwhile, Peter thinks to himself as to how he’s going to escape with both of them making it out alive.

After being severely punished and abused by a vigilante group, Vera is thrown into the sewers beneath the city. These sewers contain sinners who are viler than the muck they inhabit with everyone out for themselves. The only way out is down through the sewers so Vera begins her descent down to escape and to possibly find redemption for her actions.

Purified by Suffering: Chapter 7 – The Death of Self

Chapter 7 – The Death of Self

Vera and Belladonna have arrived at the final layer of the sewer. From the looks of it and the people, nothing looks particularly different about it though it does carry features of the other layers except for its large ceiling with a massive pillar in the center. Sexual degeneracy, cannibalism, debtors taking advantage of others. People distancing themselves from others while doing nothing, violence happening in the sewer, and others scheming to take from others.
“Is there anything special about this place that I should know?” Vera asks.
“What? Did you expect this layer to be any different than the others? I guess I don’t blame you since this is the bottom.”
“This is the bottom?”
“Yeah. It’s just like the others except it seems to mix everything from the past layers as if it were the source of it all. The entire layer is so expansive that you could fit decent chunks of the previous layers in here.”
“Where is the place I can be redeemed? What about the exit?”
“I’ll tell you where if you don’t take me there.”
“If that’s what you want to do, I won’t force you.”
“I’m going to spoil the surprise right now for you. You’ll have to give up who you are to be redeemed. All those vices that you love so much you’ll have to let go of.”
“That’s fine. They never fully satisfied me to begin with.”
“But that’s not all. You’re going to have to live like an addict without their drugs for the rest of your life. That comparison I made between sin and drugs was for a reason, you know?”
“I can live with it.”
“How can anyone live without what makes them truly feel alive?”
“By replacing it with something better that isn’t evil. Tell me where to go already.”
“Do you see that pillar in the center? That’s where you need to go.”
“Okay.”
“Hey! I said to not take me there!”
“I’m not going to take you in there.”
“You’re going to leave me outside of the pillar? Why?”
“Because if I can make the sacrifice to give up my vices then so can you.”
“You really think I can do it despite how evil I am?”
“I think you can.”
“Why would you think so? Don’t you hate me?”
“No, I don’t hate you. You said it before. We’re basically the same.”
“If you don’t hate me, then you probably still find my actions unforgivable even the things that I didn’t do to you.”
“No, I forgive you and if I can somehow be forgiven, then you can too.”
Vera leaves Belladonna in a safe place outside of the pillar. Belladonna is speechless and watches as Vera enters the pillar. When she goes inside of it, she climbs a staircase that leads to a single room with a priest inside of it. He has his own living quarters with a fridge, bookcase, a television, and a communication device.
“Hello there,” the priest says with a smile.
“H-hi.”
“Take a seat. Relax.”
“Do you know who I am? Don’t you have a way to defend yourself in here?”
“I don’t really know who you are, and I do have a way to defend myself though it might prove ineffective against a woman with your abilities.”
Vera takes a seat near the man.
“Can you offer me redemption?”
“I can indeed or rather God can. I’m just His tool.”
“Oh.”
“Hm? Are you disappointed that I wasn’t someone who could fix your appearance or delete your records from the government?”
“No, not really. I knew that the only solution for me was supernatural. The things that I’ve done have been so evil that I’m surprised that I haven’t been erased from existence or instantly sent to Hell.”
“God is the reason we exist and continues to sustain our existence. He always tries to find a way for us to make ourselves right with Him.”
“Why is that?”
“Because He is love and truth itself. The fact that you’re still alive means that He’s been trying to get you to this point.”
A warm feeling enters Vera’s body that she hasn’t felt in a while.
“Am I really that important to Him?”
“He loves each of us as if there were only one of us.”
“So, can God redeem a person as evil as me?”
“Of course. He forgives everyone who confesses their sins.”
“Then I’ll confess!”
“First, I must ask, have you been Baptized?”
“Is that being born again or something?”
“You’re sort of right. When a person is baptized with water and spirit, they are born again in God and given new life.”
“I haven’t been baptized then because I’ve never heard of that.”
“Okay then. This will be your first birthday then reborn in God.”
The priest goes through the process of Baptism and baptizes Vera. She feels light for some reason as if a heavyweight is lifted from her.
“Congratulations on being born again.”
“Thank you. Should I confess my sins now?”
“You can.”
Vera confesses everything that she’s done, and the priest takes it all without flinching. He then absolves her of her sins. Another feeling of an invisible weight being lifted from Vera courses through her body.
“For your penance, you may leave these sewers.”
“That’s my penance? Really?”
“The ladder going up is quite long and hot. It’s punishment enough. Besides, it’s the safest way out.”
“What about my sins? You looked like you’ve heard worse.”
“I have, but I can’t tell you of them because I would be breaking a very important seal.”
“Oh, okay. What about you? What are you going to do?”
“I’ll just stay here like I always do waiting for people like you to walk in. It’s my duty assigned by the Church and the will of God. Very few people walk through these doors. You’d think that there was a rumor going around that I’m actually a monster or God Himself who strikes down sinners like them.”
“You don’t have any help?”
“There are people who come to bring suggest that they repent, but very few survive that job, so I don’t have many helpers. Can you pray for me when you can?”
“Of course. Thank you so much, father.”
Vera kisses the head of the priest before going into the central room that leads up to the surface. The ladder room is hot as if it’s a furnace and the ladder seems to reach on until forever.
“What a thrill this is going to be…”
Nevertheless, Vera starts her climb. She climbs and climbs as she sweats and feels a burning sensation from the inside and outside. This feeling feels appropriate for her penance, so she willingly bears it. The pain never numbs, and she doesn’t get used to it after a long time of bearing it, however, the thought of giving up never occurs to her. Vera keeps pushing and pushing until she reaches the top. She exits the sewer and finds herself outside of the gates of a church.
Feeling a need to enter it, Vera goes inside to see all the statues of God, angels, saints, and the Queen of Heaven. The stained glass windows depict events from long ago and the candles that light up the church add to the atmosphere that feels different from any other place that she’s been in.
A priest approaches her and asks, “Hello, how are you doing?"
“I’m fine. Ah, you aren’t concerned about my appearance?”
“What? Your white dress and veil look beautiful. You do look like you need shoes though.”
Vera looks at herself to see that everything that she’s wearing is white and none of her children’s flesh is on her as if it was never there.
“Oh, wow!”
“Ah, I see now. You must’ve just escaped the sewers. Praise be to God for saving another soul! Is the priest down there doing well?”
“He is.”
“Good, that’s very good. Are you ready to receive God?”
“Huh?”
“If you stay for mass, you can receive God, which is part of the requirement to enter Heaven. We receive Him every Sunday for the forgiveness of venial sins and for healing.”
“I’ll stay.”
“That’s excellent! I’m so happy for you!”
After mass, Vera goes back to the priest in the church and asks him what she should do next.
“I can help you find the answer, but ultimately it’s whatever God calls you to do.”
“Then I’ll do it, whatever it is.”
With Vera’s new start, she looks forward to the future. She already has plans of helping others in need and people who are like her. Even though she has been cleansed, she still struggles with her temptations, but who doesn’t? She lives her life with a new purpose and the hopes that others do the same or even more than she does so that they may be redeemed.

Purified Through Suffering: Chapter 6 – Sins Make Monsters

Chapter 6 – Sins Make Monsters
After a long nap, Vera wakes up in a gory mess she made. She stumbles to her feet as she remembers what she did then throws up. Regret and sadness fill her mind as she hates the person that she is. Once she feels the strong feelings of sadness numb themselves, she moves on. While moving forward, she comes across groups of people who live in scrap houses. They appear to be competing with one another until Vera arrives. When they see her, they hide in their homes. As she passes by them, they whisper about her abilities and how they wished they could have them.
One of them tries to sneak up behind Vera to kill her out of jealousy, but when she looks at the woman, she cowers in fear and runs back to her home. Vera manages to make it out of the small settlement with no problems except for the ones she still carries. She then comes across a large hole in the sewer walls that appears to be where Susurro would’ve been. Peering into it, a skeleton hand with flesh on it reaches out then the person lifts herself out of it.
“You’re still alive,” Vera says with some surprise.
“Haha, of course I am,” Belladonna says.
Belladonna is still missing most of her limbs with her body still all broken up, however, she’s managed to recover some of her right arm. Vera transforms her hand and is ready to cut off Belladonna’s head, but she doesn’t.
“What? Do you actually feel bad for me?”
“No. I’m just sick of killing.”
“Ha, well I have to thank you for killing Susurro. His body was blocking the sewage drain I was in. He didn’t even body to move even as I was drowning. If you hadn’t killed him, I would’ve died.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Wait, before you go, Susurro had some more information on you. The sewage drain you dropped me in led me to one of his secret rooms that kept his information. He knew more than he told me. Do you care to hear what he knew?”
Vera sits down next to Belladonna as she’s both curious and tired.
“He knew your darkest secret, the reason why you were kidnapped, tortured, then thrown down here. It’s something that even I didn’t do.”
“Just say it.”
With her hands already on her face, Vera braces for what she knows is coming.
“Because you were such a horny slut, you had sex with your three children. The neighbors and city watch caught part of what was happening and when questioned about who started it, you said that your children forced you to have sex with them. Since it’s an illegal act punishable by death, all three of your children were executed while you were just sent to jail for a few months. When that vigilante group figured out what really happened, they paid your debt just so they could punish you in their own way.”
All her repressed guilt starts coming back to Vera all at once as she begins to cry. She covers her face in shame and curls up in a ball.
“I’ve seen some messed up sinners in my time, but you’re something else. The only thing I did was I was the mistress of the rich in the city. A lot of the rich children being brought up now are mine. I brutally disciplined the men and women under me while doing what I had to, to keep business running in our favor. When I got figured out by the city government and the Church, everything crumbled around me and most of everyone I knew got sent down here. I lived in a system of backbiters and liars. You didn’t. You didn’t need to do anything you did, but you did it anyway because you weren’t satisfied enough with your life.”
Vera wipes away her tears and stands up.
“And you still think you can find redemption for yourself. I read in the report that some of the people in that vigilante group felt remorseful because they sometimes saw you praying at night, which is funny because I didn’t hear that you were a part of any religion. Maybe your prayers of guilt and sorrow actually reached out to God and that’s the reason why you haven’t died yet.”
“The opportunity is there to pay for my evils and I’m going to take it. I don’t care what you think.”
“Even I am not as prideful as you when it comes to redemption. I’m scum and that’s all I’ll ever be. Since you’re worse than me, what does that make you? You can just leave me here for all I care, and I’ll be up and back at it in by the time you’re long gone.”
Feeling a weird sense of pity for Belladonna, Vera picks her up and carries her.
“What? Are you going to throw me into another sewage drain? Maybe throw me into a pile of trash or give me to a pack of horny men?”
“No, I’m taking you down to the next layer.”
“You’re what? I’ve told you that I’ve already been down there, and I don’t want what they’re selling. You can’t force me to make a decision.”
“I can try.”
“What? Do you pity me? No one pities me!”
“I do now.”
“I’ll scratch your frigging eyes out! No one pities me!”
Belladonna scratches at Vera’s face and Vera cuts off Belladonna’s arm in response then continues carrying her.
“You bitch! Put me down! It must be a pain carrying me with all the barbed wire on me. It’d be better if you just leave me be.”
“…”
“Are you listening to me?!”
As she travels further down, Vera comes across another settlement with people in it who are jealous of her. Since they feel comfortable in their numbers, they begin beating on her as she passes by.
“Haha! Yes! Beat her up-hey-ow! Don’t kick me! Ow! I’ll get you for this!”
Belladonna tries to bite at her attackers while Vera keeps pushing forward until she leaves the settlement.
“What’s with you? Why didn’t you try to defend yourself? You could’ve easily killed them all.”
“I deserved that. I don’t feel like killing anymore.”
“Defending yourself isn’t anything to be ashamed of, but what do I know? Are you serious about taking me down there?”
“Yes.”
“I don’t understand you.”
“You’re like me and I’m like you. I understand that now. If I can be redeemed, so can you.”
“No, I can’t! Let me go! Don’t you dare take me down there! I’ll kill you!”
“Shut up already.”
Vera heads deeper into the sewer while dragging Belladonna along with her.

Purified by Suffering: Chapter 5 – Violent Vices

Chapter 5 – Violent Vices
Belladonna carries an impaled Vera while walking to a nearby house of hers. Vera desperately tries to free herself, however, she’s lost a lot of blood and is unable to transform.
“Keep struggling. It just makes you look cuter,” Belladonna says while enjoying Vera’s suffering.
Vera is unable to do anything let alone say anything and loses consciousness. She wakes up chained to a bed with thick steel chains around her thighs, wrists, neck, and waist. Belladonna watches her as she struggles to get out but can’t.
“This happens to all of us, Vera. I’m sure you’ve been knocked out several times and woken up chained or restrained in some uncomfortable situation a few times already. People like us can survive it while most others don’t, so the times that you’ve been knocked unconscious are the times that you would’ve died unless you had your abilities.”
Vera stays quiet as she tries to think of a way to get out.
“Susurro has dug up a lot of interesting things about you and is going to get the exact reason as to why you were sent down here soon. I already like your story so far. Do you mind if I give you a reminder?”
“…”
“It’s not like you have a choice anyway. Besides, I want to see your reaction to it. You had an affair with a rich man because he didn’t sexually and financially satisfy you to your standards. It’s strange that you wanted your husband gone because his records are clean, and rumors say that he was a nice guy. Always made people smile, never seemed to be brought down by anything, and appreciated what he had rather than thinking about what he could have. He was basically the opposite of you. Now, this is the best part. You got your new man to kidnap your husband so he wouldn't find out about your affair. Apparently, your husband was part of some science experiment and thrown down here like trash. He’s probably one of the only objectively good people that I know of here, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him. Have you?”
Vera tries not to look at Belladonna while squirming in her restraints.
“You have, haven’t you? I hope the reunion wasn’t too awkward. I’ll have to meet him one day and add him to my collection of men. Good men are hard to find, am I right?”
“…”
“Right. Your family was happy for a time. Your children didn’t mind that their real father was “missing” because their new one spoiled them. What rotten brats.”
Vera violently tries to break her restraints.
“Haha, finally hit a nerve. You must be hating the fact that you can’t get rid of your children’s flesh from your body right now, but you must be hating that even more than the rich guy that you were with that dumped you for another cheating whore. You had to prostitute yourself for money after that just to keep up with your bills and all the expensive things you wanted. Well, that’s all the interesting things that I know for now. I don’t know why a person like you doesn’t believe that they belong down here. I don’t even believe your attitude of turning away from your desires and trying to reach the bottom of the sewer as if you were climbing downward towards redemption. I’ve already been down there and trust me, you don’t want the redemption they’re selling you.”
“…”
“Now, we get to the fun part or at least the fun part for me. I’d like to carry you to a “safer” part of the sewer; however, things are a bit too hectic right now. This layer of the sewer is a bit more violent than the others because of all the chemicals that certain science groups have tossed down here. It made the people here more prone to violence and sexual violence. It’s not a fun place to be in unless you’re looking for a fight and are into the rougher stuff. For now, we’ll wait here together while my servants outside let us have our privacy.”
Belladonna walks up to Vera and caresses her face with the barbed wire on her hand. Vera fidgets in pain much to Belladonna’s pleasure.
“I’m going to make you pay for all of the pain you’ve caused me and then some. I do hope you’ll come to enjoy it.”
“Never.”
“I’ve broken many people with my methods who’ve said the same thing. You won’t be any different. Shall we begin?”
Belladonna presses her barbed wire body against Vera. The sharp wire cuts into Vera’s skin. It doesn’t help that Belladonna moves around to cause more cutting and pain. Meanwhile, Vera tries her best not to scream or cry.
“That’s what I want to see.”
In the state she’s in, Vera can’t move at all or even fidget to react to the pain. She can only try to endure it. Even though her body is feeling a weird degree of pleasure, she is unable to transform because of all the pain. Belladonna then kisses Vera’s face and licks off the tears falling from her eyes and the ones forming inside it. In one desperate move, Vera bites Belladonna’s face when she’s close enough and tears a piece of it off.
“I almost forgot about those teeth on you. I assumed with the barbed wire on me that your mouths wouldn’t try to bite me, but I guess I’ve been proved wrong. I’ll be back with something to shut those mouths of yours.”
Before she gets off Vera, Belladonna slaps her a couple times over. Once she leaves the room, Vera attempts to break free with what little power she has. She’s able to transform more, however, she’s barely doing anything to her restraints. Her mouths start screaming as she begins to panic. Belladonna enters the room again and appears to be enticed by Vera’s screaming.
“Oh! That’s what I want to hear!”
Quickly, Belladonna seals Vera’s mouths with an adhesive tape typically used to seal cracks in metal pipes. As Vera is sexually molested by Belladonna, her body starts to violently convulse and transform. Belladonna tries using a suppressing agent to stop her transformation, but it’s quicker than it usually is and she’s too late to stop it. Vera’s transformation now has spikes on its arms, legs, and breast mouths as if it took inspiration from Belladonna’s barbed wire. There’s a single eye in the center of her forehead with her two mouths for eyes like her previous transformation except now her lower mouth that once held an eye is now jawless but has sharper teeth. She breaks through her restraints and her mouths break through the adhesive tape.
“You’re full of surprises.”
Vera yells in response then says, “You’re not enough for me!”
“Hahaha! You’re funny. This was what I was really hoping to pull out of you!”
With her new transformation, Vera cuts through Belladonna’s barbed wire and impales her with her arm.
“I wouldn’t do what you’re about to do. Think about it for a second,” Belladonna says as she pleads for her life for the first time in a while.
Vera tilts her head before cutting off Belladonna’s legs and left arm. She holds off for a second as Belladonna raises her hand at her before cutting off her last arm. With her defeated prey in hand, Vera busts through the door and scares off everyone nearby. She mercilessly slaughters everyone around her until she arrives at a sewage drain.
“Don’t you dare…”
Blinded by adrenaline and rage, Vera lets Belladonna go down the sewage drain. She yells out and laughs maniacally. Not wanting to let her new abilities go to waste, she sprints ahead. A gate lies ahead of her that separates one faction of this layer from the other one, a barrier that doesn’t stand for long as Vera cuts through it while cutting through everyone around it. She starts a fight that was already about to begin and fights against both sides. Her new body can sustain a lot of damage, but when the fight comes to an end, she’s on her last legs. The sewer water is almost entirely colored red with blood and guts splattered in almost every direction. Whoever was going to be in the fight left long ago after seeing Vera as there are no survivors besides her. Since there’s no one else around, Susurro approaches Vera.
“That was very impressive, Vera. I haven’t seen such a slaughter like that in a long time. How about we team up? We can rule the sewers together and I can get you whatever you want whether it comes from the sewers or the surface. Maybe I can even get you a family and allow you to live in peace with them, as long as you do what I want you to, of course.”
Vera cuts off part of Susurro’s body so that he’s only one body with one head.
“You bitch! How could you do this to me?! Do you know who I am?!”
“You’re nothing but a pest!”
Vera tears off Susurro’s head with her mouth then cuts up his body. Seeing the rest of his body wither and die, she moves on to the next layer of the sewer that’s accessed by a garbage shoot. One of the occupants of the next layer is digging through the trash and uncovers Vera’s chest in it. Thinking he’s gotten lucky he uncovers more of the trash to wake Vera up who is still transformed. Her new transformation has taken a toll on her and she needs more energy, so she eats the man and everyone around him before passing out in her gory mess.

Purified by Suffering: Chapter 4 – Secluded in Sin

Chapter 4 – Secluded in Sin
After being drenched in sewage water, the drain drops Vera off in the next layer of the sewer. She attempts to swim to a nearby ladder and barely manages to. As she wipes herself off and her body expunges the sewage it picked up along the way, she notices that this layer is extremely darker than the last layer. She can barely see ahead of herself as her eye adjusts to the environment. This darkness makes her hesitant to move forward, but she moves forward nonetheless.
Another way this layer is different is that trash and decaying bodies are left out to rot, however, the sewage system is only running in certain areas, which makes it possible for Vera to go down sewage pipes without having to fight against the sewage water. Some paths are so blocked up that she has to use the sewage pipes to move forward. Some of the robots and androids who clean the sewers are damaged or destroyed with cut marks and dried blood on them, however, there are no bodies around them. From what Vera sees, she assumes that the man that Susurro was talking about destroyed the robots here and forced the city to shut off parts of this portion of the sewers. This entire layer appears to be empty after many minutes of wandering around. That is until Vera sees a light flickering in the distance.
She heads towards it and finds a door with a lantern outside of it. Tinkering with it, she finds that it can only flicker and not light up. Trying out the door, she finds that it’s locked. There’s no one around and the lantern has to be manually operated to flicker. When she puts her ear to the door, she can hear voices behind it. The door then immediately opens to reveal a naked man with an orgy happening behind him that stops when the door opens.
“Ah, I’m sorry that if I disturbed you,” Vera says.
“No, you didn’t disturb us at all. When I saw you, I flickered the light so that you know that you can come in and join us.”
“I’ll pass.”
“You don’t know what you’re missing out on.”
“Trust me, I do.”
“Are you new here?”
“Yeah. How did people like you get passed the previous layer?”
“We got passed by going down the sewer drains before they were being covered. Some of us even managed to cut our way through the coverings and get into the drains that way. I’m assuming you did that.”
“Is there any other entrance to this layer?”
“Not that I know of. All the other entrances are severely blocked with rubble, trash, bodies, you name it. Do you have someone chasing after you?”
“Kind of. I’m trying to get to the bottom of the sewer.”
“Good luck with that. I think it’s better if you stay with us.”
“No thank you.”
“Suit yourself.”
“Can you tell me where the exit is to this layer?”
“It’s past a guy named the hollow man. If you’re lucky, you’ll never encounter him. He’s a guy that scares even Susurro because of how well he’s able to use the darkness to his advantage. The guy finds people via sound so throw something in a different direction to distract him because if you see him, you’re dead. He leaves us alone for the most part as long as we don’t enter his area.”
“Thanks for the advice.”
“You’re welcome to always come back or you could go into one of the other rooms with lanterns near them. We meet the other two groups of people for some group fun.”
“I’m not even going to consider it.”
Vera walks away and enters what feels like a darker area of the sewer because there’s nothing around here except blood, body parts, and trash. The sound of bare feet walking on the concrete floors of the sewers perks Vera’s ears as she now knows that the hollow man is nearby. She picks up a nearby finger and throws it far in the opposite direction of where she is walking. Before moving on, she closely listens to the sound of the footstep to hear if they changed direction and they don’t. Using her abilities, she cuts out a piece of concrete and throws it. This louder noise gets the hollow man walking in a different direction.
The sound of the hollow man gets further and further away for a while until they stop then turn to head back into Vera’s direction. She assumes that her own footsteps are too loud despite how quiet she’s being, so she repeats what she did and tries to walk quieter this time. The same thing happens again. Vera now assumes that she has to do this repeatedly, however, the next distraction doesn’t cause the man to move in a different direction. This time he moves faster in Vera’s direction. It appears that he’s learned that the pieces of concrete are being thrown and focuses on the sound of the direction that they’re being thrown in rather than the sound of broken concrete hitting the floor.
Unsure of what to do now, Vera quickens her pace. As she keeps moving forward, she comes across a clogged exit. Looking around she finds what appears to be part of Susurro’s body, but it’s cut off. Hearing the man getting closer, Vera hides in the crevice. She tries to remain as still and as calm as possible as the sounds of footsteps get louder and louder. The sounds come to a halt close to where she is, and a deafening silence ensues in Vera’s ear as she is too nervous to do anything. After a couple minutes of waiting, she turns her head to look out of her hiding spot to see nothing. She then peaks out of the spot to see the hollow man for a second before being knocked unconscious.
She wakes up chained to a wall while feeling as if every part of her body had been cut. Looking forward, she sees what looks to be her husband who is dressed normally and looks normal.
In a daze, she says, “I’m sorry.”
Vera kisses his face then wakes up to see the hollow man. She immediately jolts back in her transformed state, which breaks half her chains. The hollow man pins up her against the wall and now that she has a better look at him, she doesn’t know what to make of him. His head is split in two along with his legs, and arms. There are holes in his body where vital organs should be. The man’s appearance alone suggests he shouldn’t be alive or functioning, but he is. He’s able to hold Vera’s hand against the wall ever so gently as she struggles to free herself.
As the man looks down at her, Vera asks, “W-what do you want from me?”
The hollow man leans his head forward.
“Oh.”
Vera hesitantly kisses the man’s head again, but this is not what he wants as he shakes his head.
“Huh? Do you want me to say that I’m sorry instead? Why?”
The hollow man doesn’t move.
“Okay, well, since there’s no getting around it. I’m sorry.”
The hollow man then softly embraces Vera. She racks her brain to try to find an answer as to who this man might be that he wanted to hear her say sorry and only one answer comes out.
“It can’t be…”
Vera holds the face of the hollow man who holds her hand. The hollow man then jolts back as if fighting over control of his own body. He beckons Vera with his hand in a cutting motion around his head. Understand what he wants, Vera cuts off the hollow man’s head who violently spazzes around before falling to his knees while holding out his hand for her. She feels a need to hold it and she does so. The two hold hands until Vera no longer feels the man’s grip. She then let’s go as the hollow man’s body crumbles.
“What happened?” she asks herself as she frees herself from her chains. “It couldn’t have been…was it really…”
Knowing the only answer in her head without any real confirmation makes her want to avoid it, so she moves on and finds a sewage drain that leads further down. She follows it until she comes across running sewage water.
“Tch. Here we go again.”
Vera halfheartedly leaps into the running water as she is carried by it into the next layer of the sewer. Unfortunately for her, the drain drops her off into the hands of Belladonna who’s been waiting for her at the drain’s exit. Vera is impaled by Belladonna’s blade as she falls from the drain and struggles to move but can’t find the strength to.
“I knew you’d make it,” Belladonna says with her transformed form smiling ever so greedily.

This song, Beauty Through the Eyes of a Predator by Demon Hunter, is the song that I closely associate with this story. I think it does a good job of describing people in the story.
