Love is Revenge's Best Motivator

Story 2
Zander is a noble general who is on his way to becoming the ruler of his country. The current ruler has allowed himself to be possessed by a demon. This has allowed him to rule with absolute authority in order to make the country stronger and expand its borders. Afraid of Zander’s eventual replacement of him, the ruler secretly orders some of the troops to allow Zander and his group of soldiers to die in the next battle and they do. Zander’s head is cut off and the rest of his forces are wiped out.
Unsatisfied with the destruction he’s caused, the ruler decides to go after Zander’s family. He sends a small loyal force of demonically possessed soldiers to his house and burns down the house. Zander’s wife, Prisca, tries to save their children but is caught by falling debris. Desperate to save her children, she cuts her trapped right arm off with Zander’s sword, however, she falls through the floor and is unable to go back up to where they were. She tries to find some way outside of the house to get upstairs, but the house collapses and her children and everything she has is destroyed.
Catching her in her shock, the demonic soldiers try finishing her off. Prisca does her best to fight off the assault with her singular arm, even though it is obvious that she is outnumbered and under skilled. The spirit of Zander comes down from the afterlife and fights off the demons for Prisca. His skills outmatch the demons as they can’t do anything against a pure spirit who is also skilled with a sword. Most of them retreat, but one manages to sneak up on Prisca. He carves the Chinese symbol for death in her left eye before being taken out by Zander.
Before being sent to Hell, the demon says, “You’re marked for death, Prisca! Other beings like me will be after you. There will be no rest for you until you die! Hahaha!”
Finally free from danger, for now, Prisca cries over the ruins of her family as it rains.
Zander tries comforting her by holding her. “Calm down. I’m here with you.”
“Some timing you have! Our children are dead!”
“I know. I saw them in the afterlife. I’m allowed here in the mortal realm to aid you in defeating our demonic ruler.”
“I don’t know if I can do this. I don’t even have my right arm. I can’t fight like I used to.”
“It’s okay because I’ll possess you to help you fight, but you have to allow me to do so when the time comes.”
“I still…”
“I’m here with you now. Remember that there’s nothing that can stop us when we’re together.”
Zander wraps and heals Prisca’s wounds. He then kisses her then holds her hands to make her feel his power and love for her.
He then says, “We’ll send that demon to Hell together and free our country from his control. I promise you that we can do this.”
Prisca breathes in deeply. “Okay. I trust you.”
“I knew you would. We have to hurry. Evil is heading our way.”
Prisca collects herself, sheathes Zander’s sword, and heads off in the direction of the capital city. Because of his efforts and rank, Zander was able to earn a nice house not too far from the capital. It’s a nice area with plenty of natural beauties to it such as rivers, flower beds, and good land to grow crops. Prisca can only look at it now as she says goodbye to it.
She says to Zander, “Do you remember those days when you were home from war? The days that we spent together enjoying each moment of being together as if it were our last?”
“How could I not? Those are some of my most treasured memories.”
“And what about our first time meeting? Doesn’t it count up there with them?”
“Of course it does. I didn’t know the day meeting you in the streets would end up like this.”
The rain, mud, and pain that Prisca is going through starts to harshly strike at her nerves.
“I need to hear more,” she says, “All of this is eating at my soul. I don’t know if I can survive it.”
“I’m here. Don’t-They’re here. Get ready.”
Zander possesses Prisca’s body. Despite missing an arm, she holds her sword as if she still had it. Zander’s spirit arm helps her hold it up and keep a proper fighting stance in the pouring rain. A shadow moves in the dark sly and silent.
“Be on your guard. I’ve imbued my sword with the ability to exorcize demons. Let me handle this,” Zander says as he helps Prisca move.
Because of the frail condition of her body and her weakened spirit, Zander is able to easily move Prisca even though he’s never possessed someone before. He’s never even fought a demon before, so he tries to be ready for anything. Meanwhile, Prisca’s thoughts are empty. She’s calm as she moves along with Zander. The two have never felt closer. As his thoughts flow through hers, she remembers his memory of being killed, the betrayal he felt, and his judgment by God.
“Now’s not the time to be remembering that, Prisca."
Figures start forming out of the darkness with their arms formed into swords ready to slash at Prisca. Zander senses their presence when they form and immediately reacts and cuts them down. He slashes at the shadows at the ground and the ones that form into soldiers. Archers form out of the shadows and shoot at Prisca from a distance. Zander manages to dodge them and even deflects back at the other shadows.
Seeing that they need to step up their efforts, the shadows and darkness of the small farm town then converge to a single point to form a singular being. This large shadowy demonic creature is comprised of two legs, two arms, three tails, and three heads with demonic faces. Its body is full of faces who laugh at Prisca since they think she has no chance of survival. It then begins to throw rocks and chunks of the ground at Prisca that Zander miraculously manages to slash through. The creature then uses its large fists to squash Prisca, but Zander manages to slash through its fists as well. Seeing that the creature’s fist regenerate because of the shadows, Zander keeps cutting down its limbs. First, its legs go then its arms, heads, and then Zander cuts into the creature’s chest then thrusts his sword into the core of the creature. The moon regains its light as the monster is destroyed and its body disintegrates into the light.
The damage it caused is now clear as some of the houses in the small town have major damage done to them. Some of the farms and flower gardens are ruined while the houses have major parts of it missing. The sounds of agony, loss, and fear are heard from the people who have suffered the most. Prisca feels their pain along with Zander.
“What happened here was terrible, Prisca, but we have to keep moving, otherwise, we’ll only be bringing them more suffering…”
“…right.”
Prisca’s mind has gone numb after experiencing so much suffering in less than an hour. She moves without feeling into the nearby forest so that the demons don’t hurt anyone else. After a short walk, she rests underneath a tree to give her some protection from the rain. Zander releases himself from her body and heals whatever damage that was done to her during the battle.
He says, “This battle is going to take a lot out of us, but if we cooperate like we just did, then we can take down the ruler.”
“…”
“We did great. That nightmare of a creature didn’t stand a chance against us. I told you that there’s nothing that can stop us.”
Prisca starts to smile to Zander’s relief, but then she starts to laugh in a crazy way with tears falling down her face. She holds out Zander’s sword and thinks about taking her life.
“Prisca! Calm down!”
“That’s easy for you to say, haha. You’re going to Heaven with our children after this. I’m going to have to struggle to stay alive.”
“I know what you’re feeling.” Zander puts his hand on Prisca’s and the two feel each other’s feelings. “You can feel how worried I am about you. The pain I feel over the loss of the lives of our children and the way things have turned out for us, but there is hope for us. We can make it out of this if you trust in God and me.”
“If you say so.” Prisca kisses Zander’s immaterial face.
“I’m sorry. I wish I could kiss and hold you as well.”
“You’re going to have to make it up to when I die then. Tell God to hold you to it.”
Prisca uses the tree trunk to help her stand up before heading off to the capital.
“I’m not sure if I should be more or less worried about you now.”
“If I die, I’ll be with my family. If I don’t, I’ll be a hero. It’s a win-win if you ask me.”
“I don’t think you’ll become a hero. You will bring peace to the land though. One of my most trusted friends should be the next ruler since I had him trained to be in case, I suddenly died on the battlefield or an assassin took my life.”
“I’m glad you were prepared for that, but you weren’t prepared for twins. I remember seeing your shocked face and you being scared for weeks. How can a general who constantly stares death in the face be scared of two of the sweetest children ever?”
“I know more about warfare than caring for children.”
“It’s scary stuff, isn’t it?”
“I don’t know how you did it.”
“It’s because I loved my children and wanted to give my husband the best children possible.”
“I didn’t think you would fail me even for a second.”
The rain starts to slow down as something in the environment changes. Zander quickly possesses Prisca and assumes a fighting stance.
“What weird demon do you think is after us next?”
“I don’t know. I just know it’s dangerous.”
“Thanks for the obvious information.”
“Silence. It’s coming.”
The rainfall progressively slows down until it completely stops. Zander stops as he closely listens to any possible footsteps until he catches them that sound like a single drop of water. He slashes at, cutting the water in the air. It then starts to pour again.
“Did we get it, Zander?”’
“No.”
Prisca runs underneath a tree for cover from the rain. It then begins to thunder.
“Move!”
A bolt of lightning strikes the tree Prisca is near and almost electrocutes her.
“What are we going to do?”
“Dance like we did at our wedding.”
“Dancing with lightning. How romantic.”
“Concentrate!”
Lightning strikes all around Prisca as Zander helps her dodge around it. A direct hit is about to hit her, but Zander manages to slash the demon within it while protecting Prisca from the electrocution.
“That was amazing!”
“Did you expect anything less from me? The demon isn’t done with us yet.”
“What else could it throw at us?”
“Watch out!”
The demon takes the form of rain again and is falling upon Prisca. Zander tries cutting it, but it gets on Prisca anyway.
“What’s going on?”
“Prisca! The demon is on your body. You have to trust me and stab yourself with the sword.”
“Don’t trust that demon, Prisca! I killed the demon for you. It’s just influencing your thoughts to try to make you kill yourself.”
The voices sound the same so Prisca doesn’t know what to do.
“Zander?”
“You’re going to have to trust me! Stab yourself and I’ll protect you!”
“Don’t listen to its insanity. It’ll go away from your mind eventually.”
Prisca takes a chance and thrusts the sword into her chest. Before the tip of the blade can touch her chest, the demon releases itself from Prisca. Zander takes back control and quickly upward slashes the demon, sending it back to Hell in pieces. The rain stops pouring and begins to calm down.
“Thank you for trusting me,” Zander says.
“I’ve never not trusted you,” Prisca replies.
“Come on, let’s keep moving.”
Prisca makes it far enough into the forest to see the capital in sight. The rain finally dies down as her goal is nearly within reach. Zander removes his control from her body as the two travel along the deserted road.
“How did you know stabbing myself would release the demon from me?”
“It was honestly just a bold guess.”
“A bold guess?!”
Prisca tries hitting Zander with the hilt of his sword multiple times.
“You’re not hurting me.”
“I’m still getting satisfaction from this!”
“Come on, stop messing around.”
“Fine. Do you have a plan for me to get close enough to the ruler to cut his head off?”
“My friends and his garrison should be there guarding the castle. If I say something to them that they would know, they should let you in.”
“I’m not sure if it’ll be that simple.”
“I do have backup plans if that doesn’t work.”
“I hope so.”
“Hope that we don’t bump into any more trouble along the way.”
“I doubt we won’t. They have to know how close we are.”
“And here one is on cue. You didn’t hope hard enough!”
“I’ll hope more when we kill it.”
Zander possesses Prisca again as she assumes a fighting stance.
“It seems that my constant possession of you has allowed you to copy some of my skills.”
“Good. I’ll need them after we succeed.”
“At least you’re thinking positive now.”
The various rock formations and trees start shaking around her until she is lifted into the air just near the top of the rest of the trees in the forest.
“What is this, Zander?”
“It’s a turtle dragon. That demon must’ve let it rest here in case we got close to the capital.”
“Shadow demons, rain demons, and now this? Why not? We can take it!”
“That’s the spirit!”
Trees and rocks on the dragon start forming themselves into parasites and attack Prisca. Zander dances in between them and easily takes them out because of their large size. The dragon then turns its head completely around, extends it, and swallows Prisca. Inside the belly of the beast are the skeletons of its previous victims near treasure.
“What happened to these people?”
“Turtle dragons like these act like small tunnels with sparkling treasures in them to lure in greedy treasure hunters. Once inside, the travelers starve to death with the treasure they went through the trouble to get,” Zander answers.
“That isn’t going to happen to us.”
Zander cuts through the dragon’s stone interior, which does major damage to it. Its defense system of parasites try defending its inside to no avail. With his sword in Prisca’s hands, he cuts open the turtle dragon, killing it.
Prisca gets out of the corpse of the dragon and says, “If we can defeat that thing, then we can beat that demonic ruler.”
“We can, assuming he doesn’t have any tricks up his sleeve.”
“You said to have hope, right? Then let’s have hope.”
“You’re right. Let’s keep going. We’re almost there.”
Once she finally reaches the capital, Prisca grabs a cloak to not draw attention to herself. Zander then leads her to the entrance that her friend should be guarding. He finds him there and his friend recognizes Prisca.
“Prisca. It’s good to see you, but what happened to your eye? Why do you have death in it?”
“Because the demon you serve marked me for death after taking everything away from me. I’m here to avenge my husband and my children. Please let me through.”
“I know our ruler is corrupt but it is my duty to protect him. Zander would agree with me. I’m sorry.”
“Zander has helped me get this far. His spirit has given me his skills and strength.”
“Prove it.”
Zander possesses Prisca and says, “Move it you, fool or do I need to tell your soldiers about the paintings of your wife that you keep in your bunker? I’m sure it’ll boost troop morale.”
“Ah! Zander, you are here!”
“That’s right. Our ruler is completely corrupt and killed me because I was going to be the next ruler of this country. Move aside so I can dethrone him myself.”
“I will. Godspeed, brother.”
“Thank you. You will be the ruler in his place as planned. You can’t say we did this for you or else you will be executed for conspiracy and the assassination of the rightful ruler. Be ready when the time comes.”
Zander’s friend nods as Prisca walks away into the castle. She makes her way to the throne room where the demonic ruler is waiting with his sword drawn.
Zander says, “It’s over, demon! You killed me, but God has granted me revenge.”
“Zander, do you really think you can beat me by possessing your wife who only has one arm?”
“We do,” Prisca and Zander say in unison.
“Then your arms better make up for hers.”
Six arms with swords come out from the ruler’s back. Despite his disadvantage, Zander manages to keep up with the flurry of attacks and cuts off two of the extra arms.
“Gah! Impossible!”
“If you only knew the odds, then you’d know that it’s impossible for you to win.”
“Ahhhhh!”
Zander then cuts off another two arms then another two on both sides, which leaves the demon with his original two arms.
“Your reign is over.”
“Not by a longshot!”
An arm comes out of the demon’s mouth with a sword and cuts off Prisca’s other arm in an instant. She writhes in pain as Zander gets her to dodge the demon’s finishing blows. The demon then laughs as continues his assault.
“I’m not giving up yet!” Prisca says as she thinks of a plan that Zander allows her to execute.
She slides through the demon’s attacks and picks up Zander’s sword with her mouth. Zander’s possession of her allows her to fight this way and cut off the mouth hand before beheading the demonic ruler. The symbol of death fades away from Prisca’s eye since the ruler is sent to Hell.
Prisca lets go of the sword in her mouth as she says, “We did it!”
“What did I tell you? Nothing can beat us when we’re together,” Zander says as he heals and wraps Prisca’s dismembered arm, “I’m sorry about your arm. I didn’t expect an arm with a sword to come out of his mouth.”
“It’s okay. We freed the country and you can move onto Heaven.”
“Right. Let’s get out of here.”
Prisca exits the castle the way she came. Zander’s friend sees this and brings in his fellow soldiers to show them what happened in order to take control of the throne. Meanwhile, Prisca rests on the streets of the capital, tired and weary.
“This is hardly a good treatment for a hero,” Prisca says.
“You’ll get your reward in Heaven where our children and I will be waiting for you.”
“How will I survive until then?”
“A priest will come by to take care of you.”
“Are you kidding? I’m of no use to anyone.”
“After what happened tonight, can you truly say that? I’ll be praying for you until I see you again.”
“I’ll see you then. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Zander shares one last real kiss with Prisca before he fades away from her vision into a bright light that no one else in the capital sees.
After a few moments, a priest walks up to Prisca and says, “Poor woman. You need shelter and a place to stay.”
“I don’t think I’ll be of any use to you, father,” Prisca says as she shows the priest her lack of arms.
“Do not worry. I need people to talk and inspire others. I’m sure you will do this because I was led here to you.”
“Is that so? Ha, alright.”
Prisca becomes a teacher for a small convent in the capital while Zander’s friend becomes the next ruler of the country. Rumors of what happened circulate through the country. The most popular one is that the corrupt ruler had Zander killed and his spirit took revenge on him. Others include mentions of his wife, but she doesn’t play an important role. Despite getting neither glory nor rewards in this life, Prisca moves onto a happy life where she cares for new children to become as brave and strong and she and her husband are.

A Boy who Became a Monster for True Love

Story 1
There was once a boy who grew up in a family that could barely take care of him. The stress got to his family every now and then to the point where they took out their frustrations on him. The bruises and abuses he took made him almost take his life. He wanted to help people to love and be loved, but he couldn’t even help himself. There was no hope for him in sight though there was this strange light that always seemed to shine in his eyes. He didn’t understand why this light always bothered him, so he just ignored it.
The devil tempted him with a way out, and with no other option in his sight, he took it as he ran away from home. Under the devil’s leadership, the boy hurt and stole from the people that owed debts to the Father of Lies. He was one of the most effective human debt collectors and most ruthless. His victims were broken after he dealt with them both physically and mentally. People were blinded, handicapped, and mentally broken if everything they had and adore wasn’t forcibly taken away from them. The strange light that bothered him before kept shinning in his eyes during these days, but he never understood it. He felt hatred towards this light and tried blocking it out every time it shined in his eyes.
The boy didn’t mind doing this job even if it did disfigure him. His sins paled his skin, his eyes reddened, and the blood that flowed in his veins blackened. He didn’t mind these changes because he was finally happy now that he was making a difference in the world. The boy had many friends and worldly possessions, however, he felt like something was missing from his life. After half a year passed, he learned that he was hurting innocent people. This was made known to him when he went after a mother and her child. The mother protected the child as a mother should to the shock of the boy. He had never known that this is what a mother is supposed to do and questioned her about it. She enlightened him about what was right and wrong, which made him regret everything he did.
For the rest of the year, he helped the people he hurt including the people he hated. He did this while living in a cold house that no one lived in while eating scraps. Everything he did was to make reparations for what he did. This half of year was penance for him and he suffered and cried for everything that he had done. He was alone and pleaded to the strange light that always bothered him to help him in some way.
God had pity on the boy and had him cross paths with a girl his age. The young girl helped the boy up from his sadness and instructed him on how to change his ways. Despite his disfigured looks, the boy charmed her until they fell in love. The young lovers helped whoever they could and did many good deeds. The boy was happier now than ever before. For half a year, his love was the center of his life and the reason for his existing, but something was still missing from his life. The strange light kept shinning in the boy’s eyes. He didn’t mind it as much, however, he didn’t understand what it wanted him to do.
Tragedy struck, and the devil took the life of the young girl as a trade for the boy leaving the devil’s service. The boy now felt lonelier now than ever before. He almost took his life several times as he lost the motivation to do anything. The light prevented him from taking his life. Again, he talked to the light to save him from his sufferings and to reunite him with his love.
God took pity on the boy again and sent the boy’s guardian angel to explain things to him.
The angel said, “Poor boy, weak in understanding. Do you not know that God is the one who loves you and has always loved you before you were born? He kept you living for all of these years hoping that you would show Him love back. Instead, you have given your love to other things and people.”
Once he realized his faults, the boy fell to his knees and said, “Have mercy on me! I had some idea but didn’t know the full extent of my actions. Give me the chance to make things up to my one true love to show my appreciation, praise, and love to Him.”
After seeing the honesty in the boy, God allowed him the chance to make things up. The boy had his sins forgiven, done his penance, and dedicated his life to show his love the love owed to Him. Now the boy felt completely satisfied with life. There was nothing else the boy wanted, and yet, God gave him more. He met a young girl, who was his age and like him. The two fell in love and started to spread the love they shared with God and themselves. The boy eventually returned to his parent’s house to help them out. From there, the boy, who became a monster for true love, became a saint for the spreading of love that he got from his true love.

Twisted, Demented, and Ready to Kill: Last Contestant - The Average Man

Contestant 5 – Jonathan Doe – The Average Man
I don’t know why William, the “man” behind High Octane, came to me and wanted me to compete in his competition of death. He said something about me reminding him of a great man. I’m just a normal man who’s trying to survive in this tough world. The only good things I got are a wonderful wife and two kids. I can barely drive because I can’t afford a car. Maybe my job interests him, but then again, all I do is go around and fix the plumbing and electrical systems in people’s houses.
Despite not having a car or any car mechanic skills at all, he brought me to a car junkyard that has the cars of all his past contestants. He gave me a bunch of workers who I could command to make my own car. He also gave me a bunch of metal that he said was from his favorite contestant. I saw him take it from a pile of parts with a weird flaming head thing that looks like it was from an ice cream truck. The metal itself is weirdly warm. William added that I shouldn’t carry anything holy with me during the competition because it wouldn’t help me anyway. Since he said that, I’m bringing my rosary that I always carry around.
With what I found, I made a car with machine guns on the side, a compartment to fit a variety of missiles, a vent in the back that lets me release oil and mines, and finally a cannon in the front that I got from a tank. My car will stick itself in the ground with spikes when I fire the cannon, so the recoil shouldn’t be a problem. After making my vehicle, I test drove it for a few days before I was hurried off to William’s competition. He has my wife and kids, so he can “keep them safe” while I fight in his competition. I don’t trust him, but I guess I have no choice but to compete and win then wish for…something. I don’t know yet.
I hope I don’t fight the real last winners of the competition. They really helped fix up the world in some way. I don’t know why I’m so thankful for them or what they did, but I know for a fact that they did something great for us. Right now I’m waiting inside my cage in William’s blimp. I’m here in case something happens to my wife and kids. You never know with the kinds of people that willingly fight in this competition. The kinds of people that show up are the usual bunch with normal people with big dreams mixed in with the crazy ones. These all might as well be crazy people and I might be the craziest for being here even though I don’t have much of a choice.
The blimp takes off once everyone is in. William’s face is shown on the four monitors in the blimp. I’ll never get used to seeing his burned smiling face. I swear there’s something wrong with the vehicle he made for me. Does the special metal he gave me have anything to do with it? It’s way too warm here. The only part of me that feels comfortable is my pocket that holds my rosary. I take it out and hold it in my hand. The feeling is starting to go away. So, there is something demonic about this vehicle. I gotta get rid of it when this is over.
William says, “Welcome to High Octane. You should already know the rules going into this, so I’ll keep this short. Survive against your foes and the last winner and you will obtain your heart’s desire. Good luck.”
The cage below us releases us into-my hometown?! When did this become a Killing Zone?! Now I know why William is holding my family, but he can’t be doing this out of the kindness of his heart. Give a man his own personal car, protect his family, and make him compete in a tournament to wish for anything he wants. I’ll have to keep that thought off to the side for now as I’ve just landed in the middle of traffic. Civilians are speeding to try to get out of the city as people fighting begins breaking out.
Three people are already dead because of the fall and another two are eliminated with innocent people dying as a result of the crossfire. I’m just trying to avoid as much fighting as possible. I honestly don’t want to kill anyone, but I will if I have to. Another four people kill each other while two groups of people are fighting it out. More innocent lives are lost as a result, but the ending of the fight leaves one more person left. Their vehicle is on fire and I have him in my sights. He tries drives away but one of the drivers survived and blows himself up along with the last contestant. That was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
The sirens go off in the city as an announcement is made. “I hope you still have some fight left in you because the winner of the last High Octane is here to test your mettle! Welcome back, Avery Young and Oliver Ross!”
I’m speeding through the traffic to find a safe spot for us to fight. I can see the winners coming up behind me, but they seem different. They have this weird white that radiates off them. I’m hoping that they’re copies and nothing more. Even though they should be fighting me, they haven’t fired a single shot even though I’m in their sights. Maybe part of purity isn’t allowing them to fight or something. I can barely tell because I’m driving through parks and alleyways at high speeds. Okay, now I’ve finally made it to the football stadium. Since it’s empty, this should be a great place to fight. I deploy my oil and mines to make them slide and slip. Since they’re out of control, I unload my machine guns and missiles at them for several direct shots.
They’ve just deployed their vehicles special ability, so now I’m facing two drivers. This doesn’t affect my strategy as I switch over to fast homing missiles that take out Avery’s car in a few shots. Oliver’s car stops all of the sudden for some reason. Maybe losing his wife took all of the fight out of his clone. Whatever the case is, he’s a sitting duck for my cannon and I take him out in one shot.
The sirens go off in the city signaling my victory. I’m glad I managed to win without having to kill anyone. William descends in his helicopter with my wife and kids. They’re the first ones to get out. I get out my car to go to them-…he didn’t. He did. He just killed my wife and kids. Shot them all in the head with one of his guard’s pistols.
“You fucking piece of shit!” I yell at him.
“What’s the matter, Mr. Doe? You won the competition and I’ve just freed you from the people that keep you shackled to this ridiculous idea of love. You know how much of a joke life can be. I know that you live a miserable life and kept telling yourself it was worth it as long as you kept your family safe and followed God’s ways. You and I know that’s all a bunch of bullshit to keep your true self hidden. You’re free to do whatever you want! Wish for all the wealth in the world! Wish for control of everyone in it. Wish for it all to end. The choice is yours.”
“…I’m not going to play your game, William. I’m not the person you think I am. I’m just your average Joe.”
“But your average Joe can change the world in one wish as my contest has proven.”
“You’re right, so I wish that your contest never existed and by that, I mean that everything that has ever happened because of it is erased. This includes the thought of it entering your mind in the first place.”
“What? Think about all the good that it’s done. My contest is a necessary evil to create great men like you.”
“There’s no such thing as ‘necessary evil’. My heart’s desire is final.”
“There’s no way I’m granting that wish.”
Light starts breaking out of William’s body. It looks like he’s bound to grant the wish of the winner no matter what William wills.
“It looks like you don’t have a choice.”
“No! This can’t be happening. Damn you!”
William explodes into light as it engulfs everything.
My phone’s alarm rings as a new day starts. My beautiful wife is still sleeping along with my wonderful kids. I give them a kiss on the head and grab my rosary before I go out to work. Today looks like another perfect day and I’m going to make the most of it.

Twisted, Demented, and Ready to Kill: Contestant 4 - A Pure Love Against a Perverse Love

Contestant 4 – Avery Young & Oliver Ross – A Pure Love Against a Perverse Love
Avery and I are just two car mechanics in a post-apocalyptic world. We tried keeping to ourselves by making and repairing cars especially cars for the people who competed in High Octane. A good number of cars we fixed won the competition and made their wishes, some of which were good and bad. After John won the competition and the world went to Hell, we had given up on living till we died, but then Mason saved the world. His recent death was a shame.
What’s also a shame is John. We used to know him before he went psycho. He was a real stand-up guy. When he was sane, he used to help people in need and those close to him even though he didn’t have much. He always found a way to smile or laugh at life, but when his wife and kid died, life seemed to lose all meaning to him. I tried comforting him and reassuring him that things will be alright, however, he thought that life was playing a big joke on him. This is when he snapped and started his killing spree.
His revival because of that crazy lazy has the entire world on edge since this means the two previous winners could inspire others to wish for the destruction of the world again. The number of cult members has significantly increased ever since his revival and so have the number of murders. A lot of people are losing hope again especially since the two are driving a new vehicle that’s deadlier than the last. I’m surprised you remembered our original designs John because Avery and I are going to destroy you with our original design.
Both of our cars are combined to form one supercar that has machine guns and a small stock of missiles. My side has a flamethrower turret on the hood while Avery has a turret with bullets that could shoot down a plane. If this isn’t enough, we have mines that we made ourselves. I also have my trusty magnum revolver while Avery has her desert eagle. A special feature of the car is that we can both drive the car from our seats, but we have to spin then release control in order for the other to drive. We also have another emergency feature that I hope we don’t use because it’s still finicky if it wants to work or not. With our arsenal, the only thing that could stand in our way is John, his new wife, and his cult.
We bring along a few people with cars we helped upgrade. When we get to William’s blimp, we see that John is hyping up his gang. Their vehicles consist of ice cream trucks, small compact cars, and pickup trucks. It’s four against eleven, but I think we can still beat them. Those people on motorcycles who followed Mason’s example managed to do a lot of damage to John’s cultists before they were taken out. We won’t make the same mistakes because we have better weapons, cars, and we’ve learned from them.
Since I know John can’t hurt me, I call out to him. “Hey, John!”
“Oliver! Avery! It’s been forever since we last saw each other. I think I remember telling you that if I saw either of you again then I wouldn’t hesitate to cut you down.”
“I’m sorry for what to you, John. I still am ever since it happened.”
“What are you going to do to make up for it? Help me achieve my dream of a world full of death?”
Avery says, “No, we’re going to put you down like the monster you are. We gave you all the support we could give you, but you don’t deserve mercy or any kind of help after killing so many people.”
“Consider this as our way of helping you. I’m sure your sufferings in Hell are going to be worse when we send you back there,” I add.
“Hahaha. Is this how friends are supposed to act? What about mercy and love?”
“You’re set on killing everyone on earth. You don’t deserve mercy.”
“You’re right. I guess you do know me.”
“We always have, John. I hope this was worth it for you.”
“Oh, trust me…it was.”
With nothing left to say, everyone gets into their cages and William’s blimp takes us off to our destination. His face comes on the monitors in the blimp. I can never get over his ugly grinning face. It’s like I’m staring at the devil himself.
He says, “Welcome to High Octane. Isn’t this a great reunion for a memorable battle? Two old friends with their own little groups ready to fight to the death with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Will the world be destroyed or saved again? Good luck to both of you.”
We’re dropped to the battleground below. It’s a junkyard of cars from the previous battles. Because of our versatile cars, we’re able to control our falling speed and we shoot down a couple of John’s boys before they land. This time they have turrets on top of their cars to shoot above them-damn it! One of us got hit and exposed our secret ability. Our car and the car of our friends have two drivers. The cars themselves can separate into two miniature cars that aren’t very sturdy, but they are faster apart than together. They can also reattach if need be. This takes away from the surprise of our attack though it doesn’t change anything. We quickly land to the ground and separate the group.
Because they still have the advantage of numbers, two of them try double teaming us on a narrow road. These clowns must be dumber in the head than I thought. Avery takes care of the one behind us while I blow up the one in front. A truck comes out of nowhere to hit us from the side to spin us out of control while another one joins in on the attack. I swear John must’ve told them to concentrate on us for some kind of extra reward. This would be bad if we had a normal car. Instead, it’s bad for them as Avery takes control of the car and I light up my flamethrower.
“I’ll burn them to Hell and you’ll blow’em to it!” I say as we switch control.
“With pleasure!”
Neither truck can handle our firepower and blow up. With our success rate, our friends should be doing fine, but when we get to a more open area, we find all of our friends’ cars destroyed. Apparently, John’s followers also have transforming cars. Our friends managed to do some damage to them and leave the rest to us before they were destroyed. They’re still tough to bring down as one shoots at us from above while the other two chase us and try to break our car with their hands. It’s three versus one now, but I think we still got this.
Avery distracts them with her guns while I toss a bag full of grenades on the ground. This distraction costs them their mechs legs, which allows us to finish them off. Avery takes control as I fry them while trying to get up. She then finishes the one in the air with homing missiles. That’s it. Now, where’s John and his crazy bitch?
Sirens go off in the junkyard as I hear the jingle of John’s truck approaching. An announcement is made, “I hope you still have some fight left in you because the winner of the last High Octane is here to test your mettle! Welcome back, Emma Hill and special guest, John Doe!”
I see the two approaching in a singular huge ice cream truck that’s more like a monster truck.
John says from the speakers, “I was hoping one of my boys or girls would win, but this is unfortunate. Oh well, I have enough cannon fodder. One of them will eventually win the contest for us.”
I yell at John, “Don’t be so sure of your victory you son of a bitch!”
“Don’t call my husband that you creep!”
“Don’t call my husband a creep you freak!”
“Enough talking. Let’s just put him in the ground, Avery.”
“You got it, babe.”
I take control of the car and launch a barrage of missiles and gunfire at John. Most of it manages to hit, but his truck is mostly undamaged.
“It’s a great thing, ain’t it?” John says, “Metal forged from the fires of Hell is some of the best around!”
The car’s defenses are too strong for us to get through. Even though we are faster than him and land all of our attacks, we can only scratch his monster truck.
“Oliver, do you see that? They only have grating for windows. If we can launch ourselves up to them, we can shoot them through it.”
“But how are we going to manage that?”
“We could make some of the wreckage collapse on him. There’s a lot near that dirt hill we could use.”
“This is one of the reasons why I love you.”
“Tell me more about it when we win.”
I drive to the pile of cars and manage to trap John’s truck in the wreckage. We then drive off the dirt ramp to use our only shot against John. Time seems to slow down as this is going on. I pull out my trusty revolver and unload it at John as we fly past his window. Avery unloads her gun as well to take her piece of revenge. We crash and roll a couple times as we land since we hit a couple broken cars on the way down. At least our car is undamaged, and we don’t need to flip it once it stops moving.
“Is it over? Did we do it?” I ask as everything seems silent.
John’s voice breaks the silence. “You had to go and do it, didn’t you? You’re lucky that my wife is imbued with the same endurance as me or else we would’ve died from your stupid magnums. Now, it’s time to stop clowning around.”
Really John? His monster truck transforms into a large demon clown robot armed with missiles, guns, and flamethrowers. This is something I thought would never think to see in my life, but there are a lot of unbelievable things nowadays, so this shouldn’t surprise me. I drive away as John begins his attack by launching cars at us. We use our car’s special ability and split apart.
“What are we going to do now?” Avery asks me over the radio.
“Uhhh, oh! There’s a large truck shedder here we could crush them in. It should destroy him!”
“I’ll distract him while you get that shredder going!”
“Right. Good luck. I love you.”
“Love you too.”
Avery draws John’s attention while I quickly drive to the shredder. Once I get there, I exit my car and start up the shredder. Thankfully, the arm that can pick up trucks and cars still works.
I use my radio to tell Avery, “I’m ready. Bring them over here.”
“Be right over!”
Avery drives over with John right on her heels. Once he gets over to the shredder, I use the arm to catch John’s robot by the chest. His robot is a tight fit, but it goes in the shredder. He tries fighting it, but Avery shoots away his arms to prevent him from escaping. This is it! It’s destroying his robot!
“That’s right, go back to Hell!” I can hear Avery yelling over the radio.
Finally, his truck is shredded until it blows up. I run outside to hug and kiss Avery.
“We did it,” I say to her.
“Do you doubt we would?”
William comes down from his blimp with a somewhat disappointed look on his smiling face.
“Congratulations you two! You’ve beaten the odds and won my contest. Now, what is your hearts’ desire?”
I tell him, “I wish John’s influence on the world completely disappears. This means that all of the destruction he caused is repaired, the people he killed are brought back to life, and the death cult he started and the people he’s had an impact on forget about him.”
“As you wish but remember that people need to learn from history. If people forget about John, then a similar person might end up taking his place. Are you sure you want that as part of your wish?”
“I do.”
“Have it your way. Your wish is…granted.”
William flies away and…what did we wish for again? It must’ve been something good because the town we live in is more peaceful. I’m glad I installed ejector seats in our friends’ cars. William didn’t even notice that they survived the destruction of their cars. Who says you can’t fool the devil? Our friends managed to hide and survive the last battle, so everyone goes home safe and sound.
It’s back to being the nice place it used to be back when the government didn’t allow William’s tournament. With the contest out of the way, for now, Avery and I settle down and start a family that we’ve always wanted to. William’s contest made us afraid to bring kids into the world, but we aren’t afraid anymore. Avery says she wants at least three kids, but I’m fine with one, however, she can be a bit…pushy sometimes. This is one of the reasons why I love her.

High energy rock songs like Adrenaline by Shinedown fit this story like a glove. I wish I remembered all of the songs like this that are from the racing games I used to play like Burnout.
