Unknown Saints (A Good vs Right extra story)

Extra Story – Unknown Saints
Life is a constant for us slaves. We work all day with very little rest. Most of us were taken from far away planets by the Lutheran empire. These heretics are not Christian at all as if a heretic could be called a Christian at all. They try to act charitably by allowing us more food and water if we attend their masses and learn from their teachers. It’s just them trying to indoctrinate us. I don’t know one person who has been able to keep the luxuries they promise without becoming heretics and turning their back on God and His Church. It’s better to have Sunday and daily masses in our small makeshift churches anyway. At least they’re legitimate masses.
They try to give us their tainted version of Sacred Scriptures, but we just toss them aside. To make us read their Scriptures, they took my wife and attempted to make her read it to everyone. She refused multiple times and had her eyes taken out as a result. Her role was to help motivate the slaves and she still does to an extent. Some see her action as true bravery while others are afraid. The heretics tried talking me into giving her up to them for their sick purposes because she’s a burden to take care of. I told them that I don’t care how much of a burden she is. She’s my wife and God gave me the duty to take care of her. They were impressed by my determination as a husband and as a servant of God and let me be with the offer still up if I ever change my mind. These heretics are sick just like the founder of their religion. I pray day and night that they change their ways.
The primary duty that slaves, like I do, is to repair and keep the conditioning of the tower we live under. It allows them to communicate with their allies on other planets and galaxies. It’s likely that if the Church attacks this planet then this would be one of their first targets. We’ve been planning this when we can to help the invading forces since the heretics have several traps ready for them. Day and night we work to stay faithful to God and it looks like our faith is paying off.
We see an invading force of the Church above us as their ships enter the atmosphere. A battle is waged above with ships fighting in aerial combat with other ships coming down to the surface. We start cheering out and praying for the Church’s victory. One of the ships lands near our location and starts deploying their troops. The Knights of the Sacred Blood of Christ, the Church’s main are here to save us. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to know about the minefield between them and the tower. We try to scream out to tell them, but they don’t seem to hear us. A couple of my friends run out into the field while yelling and waving at them to turn back. They get blown up in the minefield trying to save the soldiers. At least their sacrifice is worth it as the soldiers back up. They look like they’re calling in something probably to get rid of the minefield.
I’d say we are on the verge of being saved, but the minefield isn’t the only obstacle the soldiers have to worry about. With the minefield discovered, the tower activates its automated turrets and heretics start coming out to defend it. Their forces are going to be chewed up at this rate and it doesn’t look like they’re going to be getting reinforcements anytime soon because of how intense the battle in the air is and how many ships are getting shot out of the sky. Some of us are joining the knights in battle and fighting the heretics with makeshift guns, but I know what we should really do. I enter the tower via a maintenance hatch that goes all throughout the tower. This series of cramped tunnels should lead me to the wires I need to cut to severely damage if not destroy it.
With my tools, I cut all of the major wires in the tower that starts making havoc on the systems. As I go through the vents, I see the destruction my handiwork has done. I then see some of the slaves through the holes in the vents ambush the heretics from the maintenance hatches. Among them, I see…oh no. What’s my wife doing here with them? How could they allow her to come with them? She’s behind them so I guess she snuck in, but why did she follow them? To protect her, I cut off doors and auto-turrets to push her in a safe direction. This should be the way out-oh no! She’s come across soldiers. I thought they would’ve all been deployed by now because of how many there are outside.
They point their guns at her and say, “Freeze, slave! What are you doing here?”
“I’m doing God’s will,” she says as if she’s a blind Monk of Mortification.
“I said freeze.”
What’s she…no! They shot her. What did she mean by-Oh. The area around them blows up. She really did do God's will. This tower is starting to break apart, but it’s still active. I doubt I’ll get out of here alive. I’ll follow the same brave paths as my wife and my friends. I cut the final few wires as I hear the explosions in the tower. Pray for me, everyone. I hope this was the right thing to do. I sacrifice my life for God, the Church, and everyone I love in my best and last attempt to follow the example of Our Lord Jesus.

A Duo Dealt Death's Hand: Chapter 4 – Separation and Survival

Chapter 4 – Separation and Survival
“You’re going to be mine, Darrell!” Penelope says as she tries to restrain him with the vines from the trees.
Darrell runs away from Penelope as Bree struggles to walk with fire in her eyes and hands. He uses his thorny vine arm to cut throw whatever Penelope throws at him and dodges through the forest until she loses sight of him.
“Come on out, Darrell, my love. There’s nowhere you could possibly go to escape from my love of you! Do you really think that Bree will make it here? She literally feels like she’s burning alive.”
Darrell considers his possible actions and keeps himself as hidden as possible, however, it really seems like he can’t escape her no matter how far away he gets. It’s like an unknown force in the fog keeps teleporting him near her.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment for years. The moment when I could finally have you all to myself. I had to wait until you were married so I could take Bree’s place, but it will be worth it. Don’t you see how much I love you? I did all of this for you so we could be together for the rest of our lives. You think you can escape me, but I know exactly where you are.”
Nothing happens for a few seconds, so Darrell thinks this is a bluff until the ground starts to shake and the roots restrain him until he can no longer move. Penelope moves the large trees out of the way as she walks towards him. Darrell tries to use his thorny arm to cut through the roots, but it’ll take some time before he can break them.
“Struggle all you want. You’re in my hands now.”
Penelope grasps Darrell’s face then puts her head on his as she intensely stares into his eyes with one of the widest smiles he’s seen on her face.
“I’m not exactly allowed to kiss you right now until our marriage is confirmed, but if I started to kiss you, I’m not sure if I’d ever stop…actually, one kiss wouldn’t hurt.”
Penelope leans in for a kiss only for Darrell to push her away as his thorny arm finally breaks through the roots.
“You won’t be denying me for long, Darrell. I will have my first kiss.”
Darrell makes hand gestures to try to talk about the thing that he saw Penelope talking to and that she should break away from its control. He also adds a motion asking if she can understand him by tapping his head.
“I know what you’re saying, Darrell. We’ve played charades for years with you, and no, I’m not crazy or under the control of that thing. I want this to happen. I reached out to it, it told me what to do, and it’s given me a way to get you. It’s sweet of you to be concerned about me unlike Bree, but I’m doing just fine.”
Darrell tries to communicate to Penelope that Bree still cares for her.
“I don’t think so. You saw the way she punched me in the face. She’s getting what she deserves. You chose the wrong girl to be with, Darrell. You’re blessed that I’m correcting your mistake. Now, where’s my thank you kiss?”
Both Darrell and Bree are at their wit's end. They know that singing together will help, but they don’t know if the other is thinking the same. It is then they realize they never really considered that until now and only sung when they felt their hearts connect like they’re doing right now. They trust this feeling and sing together across a long distance.

Am I the right person to be with you?
My hands struggle to hold onto you
I fear each mistake I make might drive you away from me
Is there any way I can be perfect for you?

Even with my imperfections,
I can't give up
As my heart calls out to you

I rise from my sorrows
No matter how many times I fall
I will come back stronger
My love for you keeps me going
With you in my heart and me in yours, we're unstoppable

I will forever thank you with my life
I will give you everything I am

I could never make it on my own
My weaknesses hold me down
It would be easy to give up in this dark world
And sometimes I still fall

But with your touch,
I am reminded of everything I fight for
It can be tempting to be dead inside
And give up on everything that I believe in

But it's empty and hollow
Like a comforting lie
With each new day,

I come awake, I come alive
I'm no longer afraid, I'm no longer weak
I fearlessly stand by your side with your hand in mine
Forever will I put my faith in you

I rise from my sorrow
No matter how many times I fall
I will come back stronger
My love for you keeps me going
With you in my heart and me in yours, we're unstoppable

I will forever thank you with my life
I will give you everything I am

I only need you with me
Even when you fall,
I'll pick you up
And be your strength as you are mine

I rise from my sorrows
No matter how many times I fall
I will come back stronger
My love for you keeps me going
With you in my heart and me in yours, we're unstoppable

I will forever thank you with my life
I will give you everything I am

I'll always stand with you
I'll always hold you in my heart
I'll Always Give You Everything I Am

Their singing empowers Bree to bear the burning of the fire and move faster while Darrell is able to break free from the roots. Penelope is surprised that the two were able to sing despite not being near one another.
“That’s impressive, but it doesn’t change anything. Come to me, Darrell.”
Darrell breaks the rest of the roots then raises his fists and stands ready to fight.
“Are you really going to fight me when I have so much power that can restrain you?”
Darrell nods his head.
“If you say so, but there’s no point. We still have to wait for Bree to get here and I don’t think a little boost in strength will help her get here.”
As Penelope was talking, Bree walks in. She is almost speechless and can even be considered too aggravated to be angry anymore. The flames on Bree’s eyes and hands disappear and the fog around them clears up. Bree and Darrell embrace then look at Penelope ready for whatever she may throw at the next.
“What am I going to have to do to make you give up? I’m trying to make this as easy as possible for you too and you just keep pushing me to make it more difficult!”
Whispering comes from deep inside the dark fog.
“I know there’s one last plan, but I don’t like it.”
Bree holds out her hand as if to ask for the challenge.
“You’re not going to like it. The last plan was to use the threat of starving to death or dying of thirst to make you give Darrell to me, but that’s too much. It’s too painful for both of you and I don’t want to watch you suffer that much, as surprising as it may sound to you.”
More whispering comes from the dark fog. They sound more aggressive than before.
“What? Those lost souls were really the other people you gave your power to who failed you? No. I’m not going to let them go through with this even if I end up turning into a lost soul. Fine. We’ll find our own way out. I know for a fact that you can’t keep us here forever.”
Penelope walks away from Darrell and Bree then looks back when she notices that they aren’t following her.
“What? Do you think I was just talking to myself? That this is some kind of trap? I’m being serious.”
Bree looks at Darrell who shrugs his shoulders and starts walking. With no other option, Bree follows him and the three of them start searching for a way out.

A Duo Dealt Death's Hand: Chapter 3 – Misdirection

Chapter 3 – Misdirection
“This trick should break them apart in more than one way,” Penelope says.
The dark fog thickens in the forest until Darrell and Bree can’t see in front of them. Something large runs in between them and separates them. They reach out for one another until they think they grab each other’s hand when they’ve really grabbed the hand of an imposter.
The fake Darrell rips off the thorny choker around his neck then says, “I can finally talk!”
Bree tries to do the same and can’t manage.
“Let me try taking it off you.”
The fake Darrell tries to take off the theory choker while choking her. Bree hits Darrell to get him to stop and keeps hitting him until she pushes him away.
“What’s wrong? I was about to get it off.”
Bree tries to make it clear that she can’t get it off and that he was hurting her with gestures with her hands, but the fake Darrell won’t stop reaching for the choker.
“Come on. Don’t you trust me? Let me try again.”
Bree lets him try again only to be even more violently choked with the thorns of the choker cutting deeper into her neck. Because of the pain, she hits and pushes the fake Darrell away then makes gestures to ask what’s wrong with him.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with you, but you need to trust me. I was about to get it off.”
Unsure if Darrell is himself or even the real Darrell because of her recent experience with past versions, she makes a bunch of animals with her hands. These things are some of the things that they used to do as kids and still sometimes do if they’re feeling silly or to cheer each other up.
Confused by it, the fake Darrell says, “What are you doing those stupid things for? We need to focus on getting that choker off you.”
His reaction is proof to Bree that this is a fake Darrell. She runs into the dark fog while darting through the trees to try to lose him.
“Bree! Wait!”
Bree keeps running until she comes across a lost soul wandering around. She slows her pace then hides while looking out for the fake Darrell. Now that the fog has cleared up a bit, she can see a little more clearly. Once she catches sight of him, she makes a series of noises that attract both the fake Darrell and lost soul until they cross paths. The lost soul starts slashing at the fake Darrell until it gets him on the ground with one of its blades to his neck. Bree runs away and tries not to look back.
“Don’t leave me here to die, Bree!”
Bree keeps running while trying to keep the thought of the fake Darrell out of her head. She runs and runs until she comes across Penelope.
“You really left Darrell behind. What kind of wife leaves her husband to die?”
Bree shakes her head and gestures to indicate that it wasn’t Darrell then points at Penelope in an accusatory way.
“What? Do you don’t think that was the right Darrell and that I had something to do with it?”
Bree shakes her head to confirm.
“How do you know for sure?”
Bree then starts to make hand animals.
“Oh, I remember these.”
Penelope almost instinctively follows since she made these along with Bree and Darrell. The two make different hand animals together as if nothing extraordinary was happening before Penelope snaps back to her goal.
“Ah, stop distracting me! You can’t put things back to the way they were before! I died the moment you took Darrell away from me! He was taken away by a fake version of you that was made to make him hate you by showing him the worst parts of you. It won’t be too long before we see if he decides to accept my offer.”
Before they know it, they see Darrell throwing back the fake Bree. He plucks out the flower from the fake Bree’s eye, which makes her collapse into a mess of vines and dirt. Darrell turns his head to see Bree and Penelope.
“What do you say now, Darrell? You’ve seen the worst of your ‘wife’. Will you be with me in marriage?”
To make sure this is the real Darrell, Bree makes hand animals to which he does the same. She hugs him and he hugs her back.
Darrell then acts embarrassed because of what Bree saw him do to the fake Bree.
With an understanding look, Bree smiles and nods to show that she understands. Already understanding his answer, Penelope gets frustrated.
“Why you-”
Darrell and Bree begin to sing before Penelope can act since they know it’s how the power of their love can push her back.
Once the dust settles
After we hurt everyone we cared about
I see what I did wrong
I shouldn't have given into you

I was a slave to your command
A fool living in ignorance
But now I'm free

Free from your degradation
Free from your captivation
Free from your suffocation
Once you're gone I'll be
Free From Your Temptation

You are a thorn in my side
You offered a false freedom
A fabrication
Following you will only lead to my damnation

I was a slave to my weakness
A fool thinking himself wise
But now I'm free

Free from your degradation
Free from your captivation
Free from your suffocation
Once you're gone I'll be
Free From Your Temptation

Reprobation
Desecration
Malformation
We all the things I were with you
But now I'll be

Free from your degradation
Free from your captivation
Free from your suffocation
Once you're gone I'll be
Free From Your Temptation
Without you I'll be
Once you're gone I'll be
Free! (Free!)
Free! (Free!)
Free! (Free!)
Free from Your Temptation

Penelope is even more frustrated now than ever before. Her pupils in her eyes keep expanding and shrinking with one just expanding until her eye is black. She is shaking and squeezes her hand to control her hand but is breaking it and makes it bleed in the process.  She grinds her teeth until her gums start to bleed.
“You…you, you, you, you, you! That was our song…our song! You’ve been singing songs that you two usually sing together, but that song was from when Darrell and I went to a rock concert while you were sick at home. I’m done playing fair with you too.”
Penelope uses her abilities to make the tree branches above them and the vines below them to smack around Darrell and Bree.
“I’ll make you love me one way or another Darrell. I don’t care what it takes!”
She keeps smacking them around the forest with them being unable to defend themselves until she uses the vines to tie them to the trees.
“Accept my offer or I will crush both of you!”
Darrell and Bree resiliently bear the pain while not giving into Penelope’s demands. Multiple hands come out of the darkness of the forest to stop Penelope. Darrell and Bree see various glowing eyes peering from the darkness and are unsure what they’re looking at. Whatever it is. They can hear it whispering.
“Okay. Yeah. I remember we still have two more plans. This next one should be impossible to win. Yes. I’m sorry I forgot.”
The being then retreats into the dark as Penelope lets go of the two.
“Since you seem to be faithful to one another even with distance, it doesn’t matter if I make that distance longer does it? Oh, and I’m going to add another couple of things to make it worse for you if you don’t mind.”
Bree’s eyes and hands start to feel like they’re on fire. It even appears to be that way with what looks to be fire on the affected areas.
“Because you hit me, I’ll make that anger of yours feel like its burning you alive. Meanwhile, I’ll be keeping Darrell company.”
Penelope uses the mist to take away Darrell while Bree fights the pain of the fire to chase after them only to find that they’ve disappeared. With Darrell in her possession, Penelope starts to laugh.
“Haha, there’s no way Bree can make it to us. Now, I can finally work my magic on my love.”

A Duo Dealt Death's Hand: Chapter 2 – The Past in the Present

Chapter 2 – The Past in the Present
While they are clearly lost with no clear sense of direction, Darrell and Bree aren’t losing hope. They’ve yet to see another lost soul and the song they just sang is still resonating through their hearts. Penelope watches from a distance with her supernatural abilities at work.
"Lost souls aren't the only dangerous things you'll have to worry about in this place," her voice echoes in the forest.
The darkness and the fog overtakes Darrell’s and Bree's vision until they don't see anything other than darkness and fog. They keep each other close and stay on guard. A light shines through the fog that they reluctantly go into to see that they're back home. The home gives them a comforting feeling, but this doesn’t make them lower their guard. What does get their attention are the little children versions of themselves and Penelope playing at a table. Time and their memories start playing out in front of them. Memories of fun, accomplishments, celebrations, and some fights here and there. Nothing major was ever argued over, which reminds Darrell and Bree of how surprising Penelope’s betrayal still is to them. There wasn’t even a single fight or argument over who Darrell was going to be with. A memory plays of Penelope in her room doing her homework for a high school class. She picks up her phone as Bree is calling to give her good news.
“What’s up, Bree?”
“Uh. I don’t know how to say this to you.”
“So just say it.”
“Ok. Uh. Darrell and I are together.”
“What?”
“He admitted his love for me and we’re in a relationship.”
Penelope starts to shake before breaking her pencil in her hand.
“Penelope?”
Penelope’s shaking stops.
“I’m sorry. You just caught me off guard while I’m doing homework.”
“Oh, I’m sorry! I forgot about the project we were supposed to do.”
“Haha, is Darrell the reason why you’ve been slacking recently.”
“Um. No, not really.”
“Haha. It’s okay.”
“We’ll get our parts done now since we’re together. I promise that we’ll have it done on time, so you don’t have to do most of it.”
“Alright. I’ll talk to you later then. Goodbye!”
Penelope hangs up her phone then violently shakes in anger while crying. Bree and Darrell move to her to try to put their hands on her shoulder, but her head snaps backward and scares them.
“You didn’t see the pain you caused me because I hid it so well from everyone,” Penelope says, “It’s the worst thing for a person to do, you know. Internalizing your pain without talking to anyone about it just makes it worse.”
Bree tries to reach out to Penelope, but she smacks away her hand.
“Don’t even try to pity me. You know who I want. Hand. Him. Over. He isn’t yours. God putting you two together doesn’t make him yours. My love makes him mine. You’re nothing, but a siren who just happened to steal his heart from me. You’re trash. You’re-”
After taking so many insults, Bree snaps and punches Penelope in the face. Anger is burning in her face and the sadness that she felt for her best friend is now completely gone.
“Your true nature is showing, Bree.”
The room changes to the front of the house where multiple versions of Bree and Darrell are.
“How could you do this to your best friend?” they say.
“You should’ve asked if there was something wrong.”
“She always seemed like she was hiding something. Why didn’t you trust your instinct?”
“Were you so focused on yourselves that you forgot about her?”
“I thought she meant so much to you.”
“What happened to always being there for one another?”
“You’re so selfish.”
Bree doesn’t listen to what the copies of her are saying even though she’s had these thoughts before. Darrell resists listening to them as well while trying to think of a way out of this.
“I’m going to ask you again,” Penelope says, “Marry me, Darrell.”
Darrell rejects her offer again, which causes her to spas out a bit.
“Give him to me, Bree!”
Bree spits on the ground. This somehow infuriates Penelope even more who spasms out until she calms down and smiles.
“Fine. You keep saying no, but I will make you say yes. I don’t have to play fair.”
Penelope’s hands start twitching as she uses her spell on them. This corrupts her body with sin as her evil intentions have their way with the couple.
This shocks the couple, especially Darrell whose theories for escaping are now out the window.
“I’ll make you agree with me. I’ll adjust your feelings to me and blur your memories, so you’ll think and act how I want you to.”
Darrell and Bree try their best to fight her influence, but they’re having a hard time holding on as Penelope slowly loosens their control of themselves.
“The only thing that can save you is an act of true love. Try singing now with my powers affecting you.”
Seeing how it’s the only course of action, Darrell and Bree firmly hold onto the love between each other as their hearts strengthen their connection to one another and sing a song

I want you to be free
Free from all this pain
I want to see you smile
Smile in the face of fear

Anything that comes your way
We can handle together

If you're ever in need of help
If you feel like you can't go on
If need someone to lean on
I'll Be Here

I want you to be strong
Strong even when you're weak
I want you to be better
Better than the evil in this world

Anything that puts you down
We can handle together

If you're ever in need of help
If you feel like you can't go on
If need someone to lean on
I'll Be Here

My hand will always be here for you to take
Wherever you go
Whenever you need me
It doesn't matter how impossible it may seem
I'll always be there to give you the help you need

If you're ever in need of help
If you feel like you can't go on
If need someone to lean on
I'll Be Here

The song disrupts Penelope’s magic and canceled out her effects as it was being sung. Because of the song, Penelope is unable to do anything and transforms back to normal as the surrounding area turns back into the forest.
“This isn’t over. You can’t escape. I won’t let you!”
Penelope then gets pulled into the darkness by a large skinny hand. Darrell and Bree hold onto each other until it appears that nothing will happen. With their immediate threat out of the way, they hug each other, give each other a look of resolve, nod, then keep moving.
In the distance, Penelope is scratching the bark of a tree with her bleeding fingers.
“I almost had them! The stupid rules of this place prevent me from just taking who is rightfully mine. I know. I know. I have to calm down. Did you see Darrell? He was afraid of me when he saw me change. I must appear normal for me to even have a chance at him liking me. Next time, I’ll get them for sure. My love for him is pure and true. It will guarantee my marriage to him.”

A Duo Dealt Death's Hand: Chapter 1 – Betrayed on a Honeymoon

Chapter 1 – Betrayed on a Honeymoon
The days after marriage are typically happy for a couple, but Darrell and Bree have been put in a horrific situation. Their best friend, Penelope, has been jealous for a while that Darrell chose to be with Bree over her. She made a deal with a dark force to get her revenge on her former best friend and get the man she fell in love with. Up until the day of the wedding, she acted like the same supporting friend she’s always been. After Darrell and Bree’s wedding, Penelope followed them to the casino they were going to as part of their honeymoon. She took the place of the dealer in disguise as they were playing cards.
“I’m here to give you a special deal. It’s on the house for the newlywed couple,” Penelope said, “If you play Death’s Hand, then you’ll win a big prize. If you don’t, you either lose or win money like usual.”
“What do you think, Bree?”
“There’s no harm in trying it, so let’s do it.”
With the deal signed with their agreement, Penelope feigns a card game then deals them Death’s Hand.
“Congratulations,” Penelope said as she revealed herself, “You win.”
Before they could say anything, Darrell and Bree felt their necks choked by thorns. They disappeared with Penelope into another dimension. It’s a dark and foggy forest where they can barely see anything. The couple tried to talk but they felt thorns in their throats choking them. A rose started growing in their right eye until it fully bloomed. It didn’t remove their vision though it did give power to the thorns in their throats and makes a thorny choker forms around their neck.
“I wouldn’t talk if I were you. There’s a curse on you that makes feel like thorns are choking you from the inside of your throat. Keep trying to talk and they’ll solidify. The only way you can speak to each other is through song,” Penelope says.
Darrell and Bree tried to talk with their hands to ask Penelope what was going on.
“I know you’re wondering what is happening to you and I’ll give you an answer. This is a place where love goes to die. Few couples make it out of here. The only way to escape is to either accept my offer or to endure the tortures of this place.”
Both Darrell and Bree were still shaking their hands and twisting their expressions for an answer.
“Darrell. You have to marry me.”
Darrell looked confused along with Bree.
“Yes. It is me who is really your true love. Your marriage may have been put together by God, but it can be reversed if you vow to be with me until death do us part. Bree won’t die or be left behind in this place. If you accept, we will go back as if nothing happened. What do you say, Darrell? Will you marry me?”
Bree looked to Darrell who shakes his head to refuse Penelope’s offer. Penelope’s expression was eerily static as she tried to deal with her rejection. In the blink of an eye, Darrell’s right arm was taken from him by Penelope though the quickness doesn’t mean that it wasn’t painful. He fell to his knees as a thorny vine arm grew in its place to stop any bleeding before it began.
“I’ll take this arm from you since it has your wedding ring on it. It’ll be one of your keys to getting out of here. You’ll have more opportunities to change your mind, so I won’t take this too personally. Besides, I still love you.”
Penelope gave Darrell a kiss on his cheek before she disappeared into the dark and foggy forest. Bree rushed over to help Darrell up and now the two lovers must find a way out along with Darrell’s arm and endure whatever this dimension may hold.
Bree breaks down in tears. Darrell holds her hands as he tries to comfort her. She uses one hand to try to communicate why she’s sad by pointing in the direction Penelope went and at her own face to tell him how different she looked. This dimension tears apart couples but it also helps them understand each other and Darrell understands her worries and pains.
He gives her a confident smile on puts his fist to his chest to show that he hasn’t given up hope. This gives her comfort and a reason not to be sad, so she picks herself up with a smile and they walk in the direction of Penelope. They hold each other’s hands as they walk through the dark fog. Looking around, they see that the forest looks mostly the same with very few differences in the landscape and surroundings. Their bond is the only thing from making them lose their nerve, but what they see next sends shivers down their spine.
It's a lost soul with what look to be demons on their back controlling their every action with their many hands and fingers. The lost soul has tree bark blades for arms that it thoughtlessly waves around at whatever the demons want for their amusement. Another lost soul arrives, and the demons make them fight each other. Since these people are already dead, none of the damage done to them affects them as their blades don’t cut through their skin despite the blades cutting through the thick trees around them.
Darrell looks at his vine arm and his imagination makes him view his arm as one of theirs. He shakes off his imagination and pulls on Bree’s hand to get her to move. He then points forward and nods his head to remind her that they must move forward and she nods in agreement with confidence. They move as quietly as possible through the grass as the lost souls continue to fight. A crackle in the grass around them attracts the attention of the lost souls whose demons move them to investigate it. By the time they do, Darrell and Bree are gone. They keep moving as fast and as quietly as they can while trying to look back.
“This isn’t going to be that simple,” Penelope’s voice echoes throughout the forest, “Watch as more of these lost souls come out to show you what you will become if you continue to refuse my offer.”
More lost souls come out of the dark fog. There are so many that Darrell and Bree can’t move fast and quietly enough. The demons controlling the lost souls discover Darrell and Bree and chase after them until they surround them. Darrell and Bree hold onto each other as it seems like their end is already in sight, but the lost souls are stopped before they kill them.
Penelope appears out of the dark fog and says, “Now you know how easily you can be killed even though we can’t just strike you down when we feel like it. Things like this must be fair after all or it wouldn’t be allowed to exist. I’ll ask you again, Darrell. Marry me.”
Darrell shakes his head to deny her request. He didn’t think about it for a second. Penelope’s smile turns to a frown for a fraction of a second before going back to normal.
“What do you think, Bree? You can give him to me, and I’ll find a way to make the deal go through. Think about it. You’ll be saving both your lives in the process.”
Bree shakes her head to deny her request faster than Darrell. In her eyes, her best friend is a traitor. Penelope starts shaking slightly with her pupils enlarging and shrinking oddly before she calms down.
“That’s fine. Maybe the things that lie ahead of you will change your mind.”
The lost souls along with Penelope disappear in the dark fog. Shaken by what happened, Darrell and Bree hold each other. They feel as if they need to comfort each other in some way other than touch so they begin to sing to each other.

When I saw you, I was struck with fear
It was so sudden like a bolt of lightning
I've never felt anything like it before
My hands were trembling as you stole my heart

You helped me realize what I was missing
My life was a struggle up until the point
Up until the point when I met you

Your eyes captivated me
When we first saw each other
Your touch calmed me
When we first held hands
My life was forever changed
When I First Met You

When I saw you, I was amazed
How could someone be so beautiful?
Were you sent from Heaven?
Why didn't you enter my life sooner?

You helped me overcome my flaws
My life was a struggle up until the point
Up until the point when I met you

Your eyes captivated me
When we first saw each other
Your touch calmed me
When we first held hands
My life was forever changed
When I First Met You
Your smile gives me hope
When we're together
Your love heals me
When we kiss
My life was completed
When I First Met You

After finishing their song, they realize that they just sang. Their song gives them strength and hope that they use to continue. In the distance, Penelope watches them.
“I didn’t know their hearts were this connected. Hearts connect and sing to one another here, but Darrell’s heart will be mine sooner or later. It’s just a matter of time.”
