The Rebirth of the Extraordinary: Sin's Rebirth Chapter 1 - The Prodigal Son

Chapter 1 – The Prodigal Son
The earth is filled with sin. It was cleansed not too many generations ago from the control of evil, but mankind has a habit of not learning from its mistakes. The people that were once trusted with keeping the earth holy have betrayed God and now serve themselves and false gods. There are remnants of the people that still serve God and do good, but they are few and far between with no unifying structure to them. Few souls receive salvation in Heaven while entire cities burn in Hell. Hope is all but lost.
This is historically when God raises up a champion to save souls. A man by the name of Urban the Second walks the earth in a black cloak that obscures his face and ragged pants. His hands are bandaged not only to keep them clean but because also he held God in his hands. He doesn’t wear any shoes because he had walked with God. Because of this, anything sinful he touches suffers from the simplest of his touches. He carries a small symbol of the past. A cross with two smaller lines above it. He was given this at birth as a birthright, but the meaning of the cross has been forgotten for a while. Despite having a dark past, Urban is the man God has chosen to bring goodness back into the world. Good that appears to be evil to the world it’s trying to save.
As he walks the deserts of the barren world, he comes across a ruined city from years ago. There was once a war between good and evil as there is now to reclaim the world where good won. Ruins of the technologically advanced cities still remain along with some of the technologies, however, not that many people know how to read the ancient languages to know how to use them. It is said in some legends that the great people that brought back good into the world rebuilt all of the technologies from the past because they had the knowledge of how to build it. Other legends say that some kind of demon alien race built everything back to the way it was after a mass sacrifice of infants and children. Regardless, people scrap what is found and repurpose them for the new age. A gang of bandits have some of this technology and are using it to make armor and weapons. Their armor is nearly impervious to fire and lasers while their swords, maces, and daggers can cut through anything with their laser blades once used for surgery. They’ve even managed to scavenge laser weapons for long ranged battle.
These bandits have dozens of slaves captive to use for labor, pleasure, and as a product to sell to others. Urban tries to avoid these people, but his conscience forces him to engage them. He used to do jobs for people like this as a mercenary and regrets every second of it. It was only because God directly intervened was he able to redeem himself and now he works out his salvation in fear and trembling but faith and hope.
He approaches a bandit that is selling off the slaves. “Please, stop selling these people and let them go.”
There are legends that are going around that talk about Urban. Because of these legends, people are told to watch out for a person that looks like him and is him. The bandit is wary of Urban and thinks for a second before responding. If Urban looked like a normal person, then he would’ve been killed or beaten then sold as a slave, but his appearance and aura about him gives the bandit the creeps.
“We can bargain about what price I’m going to sell them to you for.”
“People aren’t products.”
“In this day and age, they are. So, what’s your starting-”
Urban slaps the man’s face off then assumes a fighting stance.
“I’ll take your lives for theirs. That’s your price.”
A few of the bandits run away while most of them fight against Urban. They think their advanced weapons and armor can protect them, but they turn out to be wrong. Urban’s fists tear through their armor and flesh as if they were moving through water. He moves fast and loose so that they can’t touch him. Many faces, torsos, and appendages are crushed into paste with little effort. The slaves that watch this in terror and are unable to move due to their chains.
They say things such as, “This man is a monster!”
“That man is God’s wrath personified.”
“Can someone break these chains?”
“May God have mercy on us.”
Several bandits use their long-range guns to shoot Urban from a distance. He dodges the lasers and throws the dead bandits at such high speeds that torsos fly away with the corpses. One of the bandit bosses throws down his gun, sword, and armor.
He falls to his knees and says, “Here is the master key to all of the slaves’ chains. Please take it and let me live!”
To make sure he is telling the truth, Urban puts his thumb on the forehead of the bandit leader. He squints his eyes then turns around and walks away.
“You-you’re not going to take the key?”
“It’s a fake key.”
“But you’re going to let me live?”
“You’re already dead to God.”
The bandit’s skin begins to contort and twist before his arms fall off, then his legs, then his head. The slaves are absolutely frightened to their core as their hearts are stricken by the fear of God. Urban breaks their chains with his own hands. Nineteen of them run away while one stays. He bows to Urban and honors him.
The freed slave says, “Thank you so much for freeing me. What can I do to repay you?”
“Nothing. Your faith has forever freed you. Go in peace.”
Urban blesses the man then notices that one of the bandits has escaped and is blending into the crowd of slaves. He takes the decapitated head of the bandit leader and throws it into the chest of the escaping bandit, killing him. The freed slave makes the sign of the cross and silently says a prayer before heading in the opposite direction. Knowing the hearts of unthankful men, Urban follows the nineteen freed slaves. They think he’s following to protect them. They’re right, but only partially.
A dust storm kicks up as something approaches. Four heavily armored vehicles decorated with spikes and the decaying bodies of their enemies. There are two monster trucks and two sports cars. These vehicles run over five of the slaves. The bandits fire their laser guns and kill three other slaves to scare the rest.
The leader who is wearing skull armor comes out of his massive vehicle and says, “We were going to get rid of that small nuisance in the ruins and take their slaves, but it seems like you’ve done it already. I have to thank you, Urban. Do you want the same amount as always?”
“I don’t do that kind of work anymore. Let these people go.”
“I don’t think you recognize your disadvantage in this negotiation.”
“I don’t think you recognize it either. Repent and I might let you live.”
“You’re still the same man you were from before. Let’s get him, boys!”
Two cars go after Urban and run over two slaves in the process. They try to run him over, but he grabs them, picks one up and smashes it into the other. The leader holds out a detonator and presses it. Urban manages to avoid the explosion, but three slaves die in the explosion and two die because of the fiery wrecks.
“The man you knew is dead. God killed him.”
“I’m going to kill you more than once!”
The big monster trucks run over three of the slaves before driving beside each other to run over Urban. Their passengers use their laser guns to shoot at Urban trapping him in place.
“Try to dodge this you dead freak!”
Urban moves his hands through the air as if gaining the energy from it before punching in between the trucks, which destroys them down the center. The other drivers are dead. Only the leader is left alive, but he plays dead. The two slaves left alive kneel before Urban and thank him.
He blesses both of them and tells them, “Go in peace.”
One of them turns back and goes the other way where the first freed slave went. The other goes to kick the leader’s body and spits on him. Urban goes up to the slave and touches his throat.
“Liar,” he whispers in the slave’s ear before the slave pukes out his guts.
The leader then opens his eyes in fear and sees that Urban already knew that the man wasn’t dead. Urban then strangles him to death with the rotten guts of the lying slave and hangs him on the destroyed monster truck before resuming his journey.

The Wrath of God by Demon Hunter is a good song to for this story especially since it's one of Urban's nicknames.

One of the next stories

This is one of the next stories that I have in mind. Both of these people secretly hated each other so God physically put them together until they learned to love each other. Both of them know what each other thinks and feels. When one remembers a memory, the other will remember it but not interpret it in the same way. One is a cold accountant while the other is a friendly electrician. One helps people financially while the other helps people spiritually. One wants to help while the other doesn't care as much. One has read tons of ideas while the other has read fiction where those ideas were executed. I think it's a really cool story and it's going to be in 1st person so you can see what both are saying to each other in their mind.
I'm going to write the first chapter of Sin's Rebirth first while that idea is still fresh in my head then write the first chapter of this book to see where it goes.

New dark short story for free!

My latest dark short story is out! After Kyrie's abusive mother and she outlive their usefulness, her mother is killed while she is left for dead in a forest in the middle of nowhere. She's already lived a terrible life because she was forced by her mother to sell herself for money. Now the only hope she has is her guardian light who will lead her through the forest while testing her to see if she deserves to go on living.

Poor Child of Man Final Chapter - Salvation from Suffering

Chapter 4 – Salvation from Suffering
After walking for a few minutes, Kyrie’s light stops in the sky.
She stands still and waits several minutes until she asks, “Is there something I should be waiting for?”
“You will see. Just be a bit more patient.”
A few more minutes pass and Kyrie’s patience gives out. The only thing keeping her from complaining to her light is her self-control. Her discomfort builds until she feels another source of discomfort that isn’t coming from herself. Something has crawled up from her bare feet through her skin. This thing is now circulating through her body and is causing her massive pain as it feels like it’s moving around her organs and bones. The extra arm on her side can’t expel this thing nor does it seem to function. Her light still hovers in the sky above her, waiting to see what will happen.
She then hears a voice similar to hers in her ears. “You’ve been good so far, but I’ve dug up all of these emotions from the past. You hate yourself, don’t you? I know how many times you’ve wanted to kill yourself and in what ways. You even considered it after those people left you for dead here.”
“It’s not even on my mind anymore.”
“Oh, you’re such a Mary Sue. You were the only good person in your life. No one else helped you but yourself.”
“My guardian light has always been by my side. God has always been helping me in the best ways and has never done me wrong, right?”
Her light responds, “Because the people that were supposed to love you abused you instead, Our Lord had to intervene more often than most people.”
“And I’ve been thankful ever since.”
“How can you love a God that put you with such miserable people?”
“My mother and those other people were supposed to be kind and caring. They always had a chance to change. It wasn’t God’s fault.”
The thing starts moving all around in Kyrie’s body. It feels like it’s being torn up from the inside, and yet, Kyrie can stand the pain and is still clinging to life.
“What about your mother? I know that you’re relieved that she’s out of your life.”
“I’d rather not think about her anymore. If she was able to make it into Purgatory, then I’m happy for her.”
“And if not?”
“That’s not for me to judge. She gets whatever she deserves.”
“What about the people that abused you? Will you truly be able to forgive them? All you know is that they didn’t have any problems with defiling a helpless drugged up young girl to their heart’s content.”
“I’d rather leave it in God’s hands. He told me not to hate so I won’t hate them.”
“But you do hate them.”
“I don’t want to hate even though I do.”
“You can only deny yourself for so long before you have to give in.”
“Then I’d rather have God take over my will.”
The thing moves around in Kyrie’s body again.
“You’re so devout. A real pious stick in the mud. Considering your background, you should’ve been one of the most degenerate people in the world, but you aren’t. It’s a real miracle. There are few people in the world like you. Even those who live a comfortable life aren’t as close to God as you are. Most never prioritize what truly matters and fall into Hell because they are self-righteous. You are truly blessed among men.”
The thing finishes its rampage in Kyrie’s body and exits out from her feet. Her blessings and clothes are gone, and her body feels completely different.
“What happened to me?” she says in a deeper voice than normal.
Her angel shows her a foggy mirror then asks, “Do you remember what I said at the beginning of this journey? Your mother said you were a girl, but are you?”
“I don’t know. I guess?”
“I don’t blame you for forgetting, but…”
The fog from the mirror lifts and reveals Kyrie to be a young boy.
“I’m…”
“Your mother couldn’t find a husband, nor could she conceive a child despite how many kinds of men she slept with. She decided to adopt a child from a nearby orphanage. Like most people, she wanted the child that behaved the best and that happened to be you, but she wanted a girl. There was no orphanage she could get to in the area, so she took you in and forced you to be a girl. The beatings you took and the psychological damage done to you must’ve put those painful memories all the way in the back of your head. You couldn’t tell you were a boy from appearance alone because of the expensive surgery your mother had done to you. She used everything she had to pay for that surgery. She even made you cross-dress and sell yourself to get some extra money.”
“This is unbelievable.”
“Women like her degrade boys and men. They feminize them to gain power over men. Women were never meant to be men and men were never meant to be women or even dress like the opposite sex. They’re one of the reasons that human society is degrading. There are even people that play God by changing the body He gave them as if that would help them when they just end up making things worse for themselves.”
“I always knew my body felt weird, and I’m not talking about the drugs. What happens now?”
“We will let the judges decide.”
In a flash of light, Kyrie appears before the gates of Heaven and the Judge of Souls. Kyrie gets on his knees before them. He eagerly awaits his sentence as sweat begins dripping from his face.
A loud booming voice says, “Rise, child. You are blameless before Me. You shall then, therefore, be an agent of My will on earth to bring more souls to salvation.”
“I…I humbly accept your request, my Lord.”
“You shall also receive a plentiful reward for your continued devotion to me. Go in peace, my child.”
When Kyrie lifts his head, he sees that he’s in front of the church his mother went to. He’s wearing rags that a homeless hermit would wear.
His light tells him, “The people that raped and abused you are in there. They are delivered into your hands because God is a God of justice. I will give you your blessings so that you may easily dispatch them.”
Kyrie thinks about it a bit before saying, “I’d rather not kill them myself. I’m not saying they deserve mercy, I just don’t want to be the one to do it. I have no more hatred in my heart for them. I forgive them.”
“God is pleased with your choice and will destroy them for you.”
A sinkhole opens in the earth under the church and destroys it and everyone in it. Kyrie makes the sign of the cross in front of the rubble.
“Kyrie, because you chose mercy and let God’s will be done, you will have whatever you ask for.”
“Can I have the wisdom so that I won’t sin against Him? He’s done so much for me and I’d hate to forsake Him. Besides, you and I still have to run together, and I can’t do that from the depths of Hell.”
“Hahaha, okay. You have chosen wisely.”
“Am I still going to see you after this?”
“Not directly, but I’ll still be here.”
Kyrie hugs his light who hugs him back before disappearing from sight. He then goes to the church he spent so much time out. He convinces the priest and the people there that he really is the young girl from before by telling them things that only he would know. After falling on their knees to praise God, Kyrie tells them that he wants to be a priest and after doing so, he becomes one of the wisest teachers that the Church has ever seen. He becomes an inspiration to others and leads many souls to salvation and continues to do so until the day he dies.

Poor Child of Man Chapter 3 - False Savior

Chapter 3 – False Savior
As soon as Kyrie finally gets a far enough distance from the horde of monsters, her light informs her that, “We have more trouble ahead.”
“Just how many creatures are in this forest?”
“Enough to corrupt your soul. Be careful with this new one.”
Looking into the distance with her new eye, Kyrie can see a weird creature with a caved in skull with exposed teeth and a bloodied blindfold on. It has a broken cross as its right arm and a mouth for its left. On its chest is a male and female breast along with a weird X cross as its stomach. A long snake protrudes from its crotch and appears to be the eyes for the creature. Its bird-like feet allow it to cling to tree branches and jump huge distances.
The appearance of the creature is familiar to Kyrie as if she’s seen it somewhere. She tries to think about where she saw something that looked like this creature and her memories take her to her mother’s church. Her mother was part of some Christian denomination that was loose on sex and morals. They believed that God didn’t care about how sinfully they acted because they thought that their faith saved them, and nothing could take away their salvation. Her mother donated to the church in the way she knew best as did other people. Kyrie didn’t participate or go to church after going a few times. Her mother and some other people in the church took this as a sign of humility for God, but it was really because her light told her not to go.
On her days off, because she didn’t go to school, Kyrie would go on the internet to learn about different things that her mother didn’t teach her. She was curious one day about the various churches of the world until one church caught her attention. This was the true Church of Christ and her light guided her there so that her soul may be saved. On other days off, she would go to the nearest church called St. Solange’s to relax in because that is where she felt the most peace. She was friends with a priest there who was one of the only men she knew who didn’t take advantage of her. Her mother thought she went out to make friends or go to the church she went to. She never said anything about it to her congregation because she was proud to see her daughter finally going to church.
Kyrie’s mind then recognizes where she saw this creature. It was in the false church among the congregation. A perverted version of Christ prancing about as if it were He.
She feels a great anger towards this creature and so does her light so much so that he says, “This being deserves death. It is your duty to destroy it.”
“You don’t have to tell me twice,” Kyrie responds as she tries to sneak attack it.
The snake on the creature senses her and gets the false savior to move out of the way of Kyrie’s attack. The mouth on its right arm says something in Latin and servants are created out of nothing. They appear to be the same mask wearing church people that defiled Kyrie. They wear sheepskin and have huge beast-like arms. Now that she’s outnumbered, her light comes down from the sky to assist her with a crossbow and sword. The duo fights the hordes who stand little to no chance against them. The mouth on the creature then speaks in Latin and three angels appear to defend it. The angels look like Kyrie’s light, but they have drawn on smiles and the light they radiate is a dark light.
One of them plays the trumpet and another starts chanting while one of them attacks with a sword and crossbow like Kyrie’s light.
“I knew they would pull this trick. Listen to the blessing on your head,” her light says as he engages his opposite.
Kyrie’s vision blurs and her mind are filled with the false angel’s chanting. She can’t see much and what she does she are the many creatures and monsters she’s seen closing in on her. She tries fighting back but only ends up hurting herself. This is when she starts to take the advice of her blessing and to let it guide her. Even though the monsters cut off her limbs, decapitate her, and slice her in half, she still takes the advice of her blessing until it tells her to swipe her bladed arm just above her. She can’t see or feel her arms, but she does it as if she did and gets rid of the first false angel. Her vision is back to normal and so is her body. This allows her to rapidly kill the other false angel as her light defeats his opponent. Without anyone else to defend it, Kyrie cuts off the head of the false savior, however, this doesn’t kill it.
It leaps away further into the forest as Kyrie and her light chase it. Deeper into the forest, Kyrie comes across another light that appears to be exactly the same as hers.
“I am your true light, Kyrie,” the fake says, “That other one is a doppelganger! Hurry up and cut it off at the crotch where you saw its snake.”
The real one says, “That one is the true fake! Listen to the blessing I’ve given you.”
“It’s the blessing I gave you and it doesn’t always tell you what’s right. It’s really just a blessing that allows your mind to think of the best solutions. That’s right. You were the one who got yourself out of all those dangerous situations. Think for yourself what is right.”
Her blessing has never done her wrong, so she decides to listen to it. Kyrie cuts off the crotch of the false savior, which is the snake, finally killing it.
“Thank you for trusting me,” her light says.
“Why wouldn’t I? You’ve been helping me my entire life. I’m sorry for the times I doubted you.”
“I forgive you, but you know it’s not me that you have to say sorry to.”
“That’s right.”
The body of the false savior comes to life and starts regenerating and reshaping itself until it looks exactly like Kyrie. It swiftly jumps onto her and starts to excruciatingly mix its skin into hers. The copy starts to force its mind to think like it.
It says, “You are your own savior. Who brought you to salvation? Who was the person who found your friends? Who was the person who taught you everything you know? Your light is just standing there waiting for you to decide what to do while you writhe in pain. Can you really trust him?”
The blessing on her head tells Kyrie to cut herself up. Even though she will have to cut into her skin, her blessing assures her that she will be fine afterward.
“Even your so-called blessing is against you. Do you really think that you can regenerate body parts like me? Do you think that you will be fine after gutting yourself?”
“I have to,” Kyrie responds as she starts cutting her doppelganger out of herself.
This feels exactly like gutting and ripping yourself out with a blade, but Kyrie does it anyway despite not wanting to because she doesn’t want anyone else taking advantage of her. Her doppelganger is cut to shreds and Kyrie’s body is back to normal as if nothing happened at all.
“Your faith is strong, and you are strong as a result,” her light says.
“Part of me wishes I wasn’t, but I guess it’s better to be than not to be.”
“Here is the last blessing that you will have a use for.”
Kyrie’s legs painlessly split apart in half from her feet up. They grow thorns on them and become hard as steel. Her legs are now lighter as well and are useful for defense, offense, and retreat.
“Now I really look inhuman.”
“You’ll be who you really are when you’re home. Are looks what you really care about?”
“Not really. My mother dressed me in ridiculous ways before for the excitement of other people, so this is normal for me. At least, I know you have my best interest in mind.”
“Do you want to test out your blessings? I’ve been traveling at slow speeds because your human body doesn’t allow you to travel as fast as the angels.”
“Don’t wait up for me.”
Her light smiles and flies away at the speed of a shooting star. Kyrie hastily runs after him while laughing as if the two were racing. She runs through several groups of monsters as if she were the wind with them not knowing what past them. Her light eventually slows down.
He says, “That was fun, but we have to slow down from here.”
“Aww really?”
“Yes, we can run together more after this is over.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
Kyrie’s light then continues to guide her through the forest at a normal pace because what comes next needs to slowly take its effect.

Even though this song might be better for the next chapter, I still think it fits Kyrie's story. Cover your own by Nine lashes.

Poor Child of Man Chapter 2 - More Pain than Pleasure

Chapter 2 – More Pain than Pleasure
After walking through the forest for a long time, Kyrie gets thirsty. She can hear the sound of running water and she goes to find a small stream.
As she puts the water in her mouth, her light says, “Don’t put that in-”
But it’s too late. Her need for water made her drink it without thinking nor did it allow her to react quick enough to her light’s warning.
“What’s wrong with it?” she asks while starting to feel the effects of the water.
“The corrupted of this world have polluted the waters.”
The poisoned water then begins to take its effect. Kyrie’s skin begins to melt and painfully fall off her face. First, her left eye falls out then all of her teeth on the left side of her face, which drank the water. Her light quickly heals her wounds and eliminates the poison in her body though the affected areas on her body have turned white. Her left eye is gone and so is the left side of her mouth. Now there is only a hole there in both areas that she can stick her arm through.
“Am I…am I okay?” she asks with fear in her heart.
“You are. At least you will never get hungry or thirsty again for the rest of this trip.”
“I can still see out of left eye even though it’s gone. Thank you for saving me.”
“The grace of God saved you thanks to your restraint. If you didn’t restrain yourself, then you would’ve melted into sludge.”
Kyrie’s skin now feels waxy and rubbery. Her left eye can see farther and clearer than her right and her jaw could break the branches of the tree if she wanted to.
“Do I really deserve this blessing?”
“You do. I’ve already said why. Shall we continue?”
“Yes, let’s go.”
Going further into the forest, Kyrie begins to notice the weird look of the forest trees. The holes and branches that stick out seem to have the appearance of male and female genital. This makes her feel hot and bothered for some reason. She remembers the time when people with bags on their heads and masks on their face would have their way with her. Even though she always resisted, she was drugged to go through it. She only remembers pain, forced pleasures, and the weirdest perverted things done to her just so her mother could feel loved and make money while doing so.
Some of the barren trees come to life and reveal themselves to be creatures. It appears that two people make up their body with one female figure forced to be on top of the male figure with a bed-like object on them. A tongue sticks out of their mouth where the two heads meet, and another tongue is at the bottom of the creature. One appears to be smelling for something while the other is sucking up the air in that general direction.
“They’re attracted to the pheromones that you give off. They want to suck all of it out of you, so it’s best to avoid them.”
The bottom of the creature then starts excreting similar pheromones to Kyrie to attract her to it. It numbs her brain and takes control of her body. The blessing on her head helps her consciousness wake her up and snap her out of the trance. Kyrie covers her mouth and holds her hip as she makes her way around the creature as it continues to secrete its pheromones. The smell becomes stronger and harder to resist over time especially since it keeps going in Kyrie’s general direction. It gets to a point where she loses control of most of her body. She starts walking to it. Her blessing tries to wake her up to no avail. It isn’t until she is near the creature does she commit an act of desperation as she cuts her side to wake herself up.
This act is done too late, however, as the creature is now confident enough to know where she is. It inserts its one tongue into Kyrie’s mouth and begins to suck the pheromones out her. This gives her a sort of painful ecstasy that tries to captivate her mind, but she doesn’t allow it. She cuts off both of the creature’s tongues and runs away from it. It blindly chases her and eventually tires itself out. Kyrie looks back at it and wants to kill it. Both parts of the creature trigger hatred in her mind even the female part of it, but she decides to keep moving.
“Because of your ability to wrestle control of yourself, here is another blessing to help you.”
A white arm with a mouth on it grows out of Kyrie’s left side. Controlling it with her mind, it can manifest her pheromones and other emotions and throw them far away from her. Several other creatures like the last start waking up along with the ones from before, which allows her to put these abilities to the test. Her blessing on her head tells her which direction is best to go in while her new arm allows her to distract the creatures. She even throws some of her emotions onto the armless creatures, which the combined ones confuse for her. The two monsters blindly fight each other and attract the attention of nearby monsters to give Kyrie a big enough exit out of the area.
Continuing through the forest, Kyrie comes across a large mountain with a cave that leads through it. Her light hovers over it so she consults her blessing and it says to go through the cave. What she finds in the cave is a tight series of tunnels. Since she can barely see, the blessing on her head guides her. While going through the tunnels, the jagged rocks allow her to feel where she’s going so she doesn’t hurt herself on them. As she gets closer and closer to the exit, she can hear something following her from behind. The source of the noise eventually comes into view and it appears to be a different version of the tongued creature with hands and a tendril-like tongue that tries sucking at different parts of her body. She defends herself with her bladed arm but the tongue and arms keeping growing back.
Various arms and tongues then begin growing out of the rocks to assault her. It’s a struggle to cut them all especially since there’s no way to expel the pheromones that keep building up within her. Kyrie then comes to a dead end where the walls of the cave start to close in on her. Her blessing instructs her to cut her way out and she does before the tongues and hands strength their grip on her.
Finally out of that cramped cave, Kyrie catches her breath and starts expelling the built up feelings away from her.
“That was the best way to go?” she asks her light.
“It was the best because the rest of the area was covered in creatures. Are you rested up? Those feelings you’re expelling are attracting them to this area.”
Kyrie heavily sighs.
“Ready.”
Her light quickly guides her away from the mountain as dozens upon dozens of creatures converge on the area.

A song that I think is a good theme song for this story. Dear Agony by Breaking Benjamin.

Poor Child of Man Chapter 1 - Dead to the World

Chapter 1 – Dead to the World
“Are you still awake?” a voice in the dark of the night asks.
“I think I am.”
“What is your name?”
“Kyrie. I’m a boy, I think. Isn’t Kyrie a boy’s name?”
“Your mother said you were a girl.”
“I remember that. I look like one too, so I guess that’s what I am.”
Kyrie’s mind finally begins to wake up after what just happened. Her mother was just shot in front of her after she begged for her life.
Kyrie’s mother even turned to her and said, “You’re a good girl, I know it. Please, save me!”
Before she had a chance to say anything, their kidnappers, shot her mother then drove off. They left Kyrie alive because she was useful to them when she was drugged. The young girl was nothing but a living sex doll they could use for cheap because of her mother. She’s outlived her usefulness and is tossed aside like trash. Now she’s alone, relatively speaking, in a forest hundred of miles away from any kind of human contact.
“Who are you?” Kyrie asks the voice in the darkness.
“I am your guiding light.”
Kyrie turns to the source of the voice and sees a shining light in the sky. It appears to be a man clothed in light with a white bag on his head. He’s carrying a flag that has a golden cross with an X behind it. The man shines brighter than the stars in the sky and could easily be mistaken for the sun if you look at him for too long.
“Where are you going to take me?”
“I’m going to bring you home.”
“Why? I don’t have anyone to care for me there.”
“They’ll be people there to protect you. Trust me like how you trusted me before.”
“I’m not sure. You haven’t exactly protected me for most of my life.”
“You’re safe now, aren’t you? It wasn’t supposed to be this way, you can blame your mother for that. There was only so much my friends and I could do without violating a human’s right to free will. I apologize for the sufferings you’ve endured. Know that the future is bright and eagerly waiting for you with open arms.”
“I guess I should. Alright. Guide me home.”
The light moves through the sky guiding Kyrie to her home. The night is cold and darker than normal. Kyrie hadn’t eaten or drunken anything for a while and is starting to feel the effects, however, she keeps her mind on her guiding light for the hope of safety and a better life.
Her light senses danger coming for her and tells her, “Danger comes this way to steal your soul. I will grant you a blessing to protect yourself.”
Kyrie’s right arm turns completely white with her fingers turning into blades that could cut metal as if it were butter. Her elbow turns into a blade that can be used to stab things behind her. Even though she’s never been good at fighting back against anyone who’s attacked her, her mind and body are lightened and feel strong enough for battle. As she continues through the forest, she sees weird chunks of branches that hang on trees. When she gets close to them, they fall off and begin to attack her.
These monsters are nothing but two put together pair of legs. They make muffled sounds, as if they were struggling for air, despite not having a mouth. They scurry towards Kyrie on all fours. As Kyrie readies her attack, the monster stands still then moves in different directions and seems to think that Kyrie has disappeared. Seeing this, she walks away while trying not to make noise in case the monster can hear. After getting some distance, she walks normally. Her body hasn’t changed back to normal yet.
“Why isn’t my body going back to normal?”
“You’re going to need it for later. You’ll be getting more soon enough. Watch out. There are more of those monsters ahead.”
More monsters hanged from the trees like cocoons ready to hatch into butterflies. Despite having a weapon that she could use to cut them all down to pieces, Kyrie sneaks past all of the monsters.
Her light asks her, “Why did you sneak past those monsters? Don’t you trust the blessing I’ve given you?”
“I do, but I’d rather not kill anything.”
The utterance of these words reminds Kyrie of her past. The times she had when she could’ve killed the people she hated but chose not to. The times when she could’ve taken out her anger on something else but chose not to. One time comes to mind when a stray cat came up to her. The cat had infiltrated the house through the kitchen window. Kyrie’s mother taught her how to defend herself with knives and endorsed killing animals that sneak into the house, but she didn’t listen to her mother on this occasion. The cat somehow knew the mercy it was given and rubbed up against Kyrie. She pets the cat that licks her hand. This is one of the few occasions that Kyrie can remember that she didn’t force a smile. The cat then went out the way it left.
In the blink of an eye, that memory played out again in Kyrie’s mind. She blinks again to set her mind in the present.
“Tell me more about your mother.”
“What can I tell you that you don’t know? She grew up wanting a normal family. She wanted people to love her, but she grew up in an abusive family and she never could find a husband. That’s why she was so abusive towards me and why she sold her body for money. She didn’t need to take drugs to numb the feeling of being used. She just wanted to hear someone compliment her and feign the feeling of love for her. That was her drug.”
“And yet, you still tried to give her the respect that a mother deserves, didn’t you?”
Various short memories of Kyrie and her mother play in her head. The young girl did try to love her mother like all children and her mother returned the love when she could. It was only when Kyrie disobeyed her mother that she was abused and beaten.
The light continues, “The sins of the parents fall to the children except you seem to be an exception. Do you forgive your mother?”
“I’d rather not be like her, so yes I do even though I don’t want to. I wanted her to be a better mother, but I couldn’t get her to be.”
“It’s not your fault. Forgiveness is a strength and you exemplify that.”
Kyrie feels a change in her body as a lump forms on the top of her head.
“What is this?”
“That little creature will warn you of impending danger through your thoughts. It will also suggest to you several possible courses of action.”
The creature is like a small fetus with tiny arms, a small mouth, but no eyes, even though its senses and intelligence are incredible. It rubs up against Kyrie’s face and licks it like the cat did so many years ago.
“Thank you for it. Am I going to look like a freak after this? It seems like I’m going to keep getting blessings like these.”
“You’ll look like who you truly are when you reach the end and not like this. Whether you look like a freak or you is up to what you chose.”
Kyrie’s stomach begins to growl.
“Uh, is there any food in this forest?”
“There is a tree nearby with fruit on it. Your new friend should help you navigate your way to safely get it.”
Her light guides her to fruit tree with grapes on it. The area is surrounded by the hanging monsters, but Kyrie’s new blessing tells her the best way to go around them without alerting them. She takes its advice and succeeds in taking the grapes. A single grape falls from the vine and rolls towards the monster, which wakes all of them up.
They fall from the tree and crush the grape before realizing that what they crushed wasn’t human. Knowing that she must be around, the monsters patrol the area and move in irregular patterns so they can catch Kyrie in a sort of trap. The blessing on her head then guides her through a step by step process on how to get through this maze. This involves her using the trees to get through tricky spots and move at weird times to avoid the sporadic movements of the monsters. She then manages to get to safety so she can eat. Her stomach is now satisfied enough to keep moving forward.
“Alright, I feel better now. Where to next?”
“Just follow me and I’ll show you.”
“Okay. Want some grapes? I got some for you.”
“Oh, that’s sweet of you. Thank you for thinking of me.”
Her light comes down from the sky and eats the grapes Kyrie gives him.
“Does everyone have a guide like you?”
“They do, but most don’t allow us to help them in the way that’s needed.”
“They’re missing out then.”
“Don’t thank me now. We still have a ways to go.”
“Let’s get going then.”
Kyrie is lead by her guiding light deeper into the forest with more challenges and dangers eagerly awaiting her arrival.
