Chapter
5 – Life Giving Fire
Lucus and Silva firmly grip each other’s
hands as they walk into the place they’ve been traveling to. The lover’s castle
sits in the center of a small city with what looked to be luxurious buildings.
There’s not a living person or thing in sight nor do there seem to be signs
that anyone tried to live in the area.
Silva gets up closer to Lucus and says,
“I don’t like this. It’s too quiet.”
“I don’t like it either, but we
shouldn’t let it bother us too much. The castle is right there and for better
or worse, it’s shorter than it once was.”
The castle where the two lovers
gather is heavily damaged from being the center of where God burned the world,
however, it is still intact even with bits of it that appear to be on the verge
of collapsing. Lucus and Silva look up at the damaged structure hoping that it
will stay together.
“We’re here. So, what do we do?
Just go to the top of the tower and show our love to God?” Lucus asks Silva.
“I guess so. I wasn’t really taught
what the lovers do since I wasn’t one of them.”
“Let’s hope there’s nothing difficult
involved then.”
Lucus and Silva enter the castle to
find its darkened halls with burnt clothes that instantly break apart when touched.
Silva looks at them and remembers that she’s the reason this happened.
Lucus sees that she’s looking at
them too much and says, “Come on. We’re going to fix everything soon.”
“What about everyone else who died
because of me?”
“They’re either in Heaven or Hell.
Don’t worry about them. We’re forgiven and this is our true penance, remember?”
“What about everyone else who is suffering
now?”
“They’re going to get the relief they
deserve soon, but they aren’t going to get it if we don’t keep going.”
“Oh, that’s right. I’m sorry. I’ll
try not to worry about it anymore.”
Deeper into the castle they find a
split path.
“Hmm. I don’t remember this being
here,” Silva notes.
“Do you think someone or some
demon split the paths?” Lucus asks.
“We’ll have to see.”
Before they can decide on which
path to go on, a part of the ceiling drops between them and an invisible force
separates them. The ceiling behind them also collapses so now they’re unable to
be together.
Lucus bangs on the walls and yells,
“Silva! Are you okay?”
“Lucus! Are you there?” Silva yells
back.
They can only hear each other’s
scream but can’t hear what the other is saying.
“If you can hear me, keep going,
Silva! I’ll meet you at the top of the castle!”
“I’ll try to find a way out and
meet you at the top of the castle, Lucus! Don’t keep me waiting!”
Lucus and Silva go down their separate
tunnels in the hopes of eventually meeting up with each other. In his tunnel,
Lucus hears the sound of someone walking in the darkness.
“Who’s there?” Lucus asks.
“What’s it like to be the killer of
your parents?” a dark voice responds.
Thinking it’s a demon, Lucus
launches his chain arm into the darkness only for the chain to be cut and the
rest of the chain pulled into the darkness. Now with only one arm, Lucus
cautiously walks into the darkness.
“I don’t care for what you have to
say, demon. You can’t stop the two of us from fixing the world.”
“How can you trust that girl? She’s
the one who started all this. She was making a man cheat on the one he loved.
What makes you think she won’t cheat on you?”
“I trust her.”
“Other men have trusted women that
have cheated. They thought their love would be loyal to them only to be betrayed
like the others.”
“She’s different. She’s trying to
fix her mistakes.”
“Of course she wants to erase the
stain of what she did. It’s what happens after that matters. Almost everyone
sins after their confession and penance except for those on the brink
of death.”
“I don’t care what you think. Silva
is a girl who is putting her life on the line to do the right thing not only
for herself but for everyone in the world. No selfish person would do that.”
“Why are you so devoted to her?”
“Because of the person she is.
Because I love her.”
“How could you love someone who has
been disfigured by their evil deeds?”
“Because I'm the same as her. A
sinner who is doing penance for the evil I’ve done.”
On Silva’s side, she hears the same
dark voice talk to her.
“The destroyer of the world thinks
she can be redeemed.”
“Who are you?”
“Who are you? Nothing. A monster who is unworthy to be loved. Your parents didn’t love you and neither did your fellow
assassins. Even that boy didn’t fully love you. He was meant to be with another
girl after all.”
“Shut up. I don’t need to listen to
your lies, demon.”
"Do you really believe that a
disgraced creature such as yourself can be loved especially after what you
did?"
"I do, and he helped me
believe it.”
“So what if he bought your lies?
You’re still the lowest of the low even when you weren’t a terrible sinner.”
“I don’t care what I am in your
eyes because I’m loved by both God and him.”
“You have nothing to your name
except for all the destruction in the world. If you stop, then you’ll have
something.”
“It doesn’t matter if anyone knows
me for what I do. It only matters that I do the right thing.”
Silva and Lucus exit the dark
passageway and end up at the top of the castle meeting each other. They embrace
each other and hold each other’s hand as they walk to the center of the roof. A
light comes from the sky and starts to burn them and the surrounding area as it
spreads across the earth. The fire doesn’t hurt them nor the people it touches.
Instead, the fire destroys the demons of ash, cleanses the ash from the earth, washes
the sins from everyone on earth, returns their normal appearance, and takes
away a vice they are weak too.
When everything is done burning,
the skies open, and color returns to the earth as grass and flowers begin to
grow from the ground. Lucus and Silva look out at the luscious earth before
them then look at each other. They take off their masks to see each other’s
restored face.
“You’re even prettier than I imagined,”
Lucus says.
“Haha, and you’re even more handsome than I imagined,” Silva says.
The two lovers then embrace and
kiss each other. With the world restored, the two lovers with the survivors start
to rebuild civilization into something better than it once was. The sins of the
past are gone, burned away, and forgiven by the power of true love that burns
away all evil.
The
End
