Prayer of the Monks of Mortification - (Song/Poem Attempt #65 from Good vs Right)
(After singing the Apostles' Creed, Our Father, Three Hail Marys, and a Glory Be, the following must be sung)
Let us pray. Oh God, who endured pain and death for our sins, we pray,
Response: Help us to suffer as you did to pay the debts of our sins and the sins of others.
Let us be your instruments to pay for the wages of sin and help those who are afflicted.
R: So that thy will shall be done as it is in Heaven.
Help us to mortify the flesh.
R: So that we can master our control over ourselves.
For the wisdom of the flesh is death; but the wisdom of the spirit is life and peace.
R: Because the wisdom of the flesh is an enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither can it be.
And they who are in the flesh, cannot please God.
R: But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
For if you live according to the flesh, you shall die: but if by the Spirit you mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live.
R: For whosoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins.
R: The virtue that is the cement that binds communities to God and persons to one another.
If I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity
R: It profiteth me nothing.
Charity never falleth away: whether prophecies shall be made void, or tongues shall cease, or knowledge shall be destroyed.
R: For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
Always be in our hearts, Oh Lord, who is truth and love itself.
R: Always and forever we shall love you.
St. Padre Pio, blessed with stigmata.
R: Pray for us.
