The Bella and Her Butler: Chapter 2 – Riches and Stitches

Chapter 2 – Riches and Stitches
Upon noticing that Baxter isn’t by her side when she wakes up, Blair goes to Baxter and slaps him awake.
“Huh? What is it, princess?”
“You left me when I told you to stay with me until I say to leave.”
“Well, you fell asleep and your parents don’t let us sleep in the same bed together.”
“They aren’t here so you shouldn’t have followed that rule. I needed you here by my side.”
Leighton enters the room and says, “It’s inappropriate for a princess to sleep with her butler, Blair.”
“I don’t understand why.”
“That’ll be a problem for you to solve when you’re older. For now, just know that a princess must be comfortable by herself even when she feels uncomfortable because there will be times when you feel alone even with people around you.”
“Hmph. Okay.”
“Today’s lesson will have to do with this bag of gold.”
Leighton gives the bag of gold to Baxter who takes a look inside and is shocked.
“This can buy us a house and more! What are we going to do with it?” Baxter asks.
“Nothing. Control your spending. Don’t spend it on anything and focus on what’s really important.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Get dressed and walk around town until you figure it out.”
Baxter and Blair do as Leighton says and take a walk around town. They see the many businesses that sell various exotic clothing, decorations, and other knickknacks that catch their eyes. Blair looks at the exotic dresses through the glass and is captivated by their elegance and beauty. A little girl who looks like Blair is trying one of the dresses and spins in a way that makes glitter fly around her. Baxter stops her before she enters the shop.
“You shouldn’t buy any dresses. You already have plenty,” he says.
“Oh, that’s right.”
Baxter helps Blair walk away from the dress shop. As Blair loses sight of the dresses, the thought of buying one exits her mind, but the sight of the furniture store distracts her. She looks into the store and sees a salesman presenting the furniture and looking directly at her in an almost creepy way with his happy and frowning face extending.
Baxter tugs on Blair’s hand and says, “Come on. We don’t need it.”
“Mmmm. Okay.”
The salesman waves bye to Blair along with the chair that appears to be waving as well. With one distraction gone another comes again with an antique store. The masterfully made figures dance in place and around the store with the flames from the candles in the store dancing with them. This display of beauty captures the eyes and minds of Baxter and Blair.  Baxter manages to snap out of it by thinking about the uses of the figures and his responsibilities and tugs on Blair’s hand.
“Let’s go, princesses. We don’t need them.”
“But…but I can bring them to my parents! They can provide lots of entertainment for them!”
“We already have entertainers in the castle and if we need more, your parents will hire them.”
“But we don’t have entertainers like those figures!”
“We don’t need them. Come on already.”
“Mmmmmm…”
Blair finds it harder to pull herself away from the figures until she catches sight of the pet store with various kinds of cats, dogs, and even tigers and lions in the window. The store advertises them as servant pets, pets that act as normal house pets but can also do the things a servant can do. She runs to it and can pet the docile pets through the cages. Baxter also pets the friendly animals though he isn’t too captivated by them. Again, he tries to pull Blair away from them.
“Why can’t I take at least one of them, Baxter? Think about having animal servants in the castle!”
“We already have plenty of servants in the castle.”
“But we don’t have servants like these! These servants will do everything I say and will always love me.”
“But you already have servants who do that for you. Servants like me.”
Blair slaps Baxter.
“No, I don’t! You don’t do anything I say and that means you don’t love me!”
“I do everything you want me to. Even the things you don’t tell me to do, I do because I want to do the best for both of us.”
Blair stops herself before she hits Baxter again then realizes what she’s done.
“I’m…I’m sorry, Baxter,” Blair says before hugging him.
“It’s okay. I forgive you.”
The gold in Baxter’s pocket melts and forms itself into a golden heart. He takes it out of its bag and examines it.
“The gold turned into a golden heart,” Baxter says.
“I wonder why,” Blair says.
Phillip comes out of the pet store with two bags and says to the two, “I see that you’ve just been challenged by gold. I remember going through that test multiple times before finally passing it.”
“What does this gold heart mean?” Baxter asks.
“It means that you’ve found what’s really important. What’s more valuable than gold.”
“What’s that?” Blair asks.
“Do I really need to spell it out for you? No, wait. Don’t answer that because I needed it spelled out for me even though I found it. It’s compassion for one another. Loving the people around you can be something you forget to do even if you devout your life to working for them.”
Blair and Baxter look and smile at one another.
“Oh, if only I can keep remembering that lesson, so I don’t need to keep repeating the challenge. I’d also like to have that kind of look with my servant. I don’t know why I want it though. Anyways, I have to get this food back to my pet at home. We do have a meeting later today, so I’ll see you two soon.”
Baxter and Blair go back to Leighton and Lynette and show them the golden heart.
Lynette holds it up and says, “This is amazing! Always look to the heart when you begin to lose sight of what matters.” Before giving them back the golden heart.
“I trust that you’ve seen Prince Phillip?” Leighton asks.
“How do you know we saw him?” Blair asks.
“It’s all part of the plan. We know everything that will happen except for what you will do.”
“That’s a little creepy…”
“We have only your best intentions in our hearts. There’s no reason to be afraid except maybe if you don’t like big falls.”
“Big falls?”
Leighton taps his foot and the floor below Blair and Baxter goes away. Both of them fall down a large hole and land a large pile of pillows in a large room that has red cushions on the walls, floor, and ceiling.
“I’m getting so tired of falling!” Blair exclaims.
“You’ll get used to it,” Phillip says who happens to be in the room.
“Phillip, how did you get here?” Baxter asks.
“This entire town has shifting tunnels that move at the will of the adults. It’s a strange power that I hope to get when I’m older. You won’t get it when your training is done though since you’re just temporary guests.”
“So, what are we supposed to be doing here?”
“Patience is a virtue they say, and you’ll have to cultivate it here with me. Sit down and make yourself comfortable if you aren’t already comfortable sitting on top of each other.”
“Princess, we-”
“I’m fine using you as a chair.”
“Yes, princess.”
“You two appear to be closer than I thought. Why is that?”
“We grew up together. We were the only kids in the castle, and even though our parents let us play together, they told us never to be close because they said I could only marry royalty and umm…next question. I’ll ask it. Why can’t we have powers like you?”
“Because you’re not tethered to this place.”
“What do you mean?”
“You don’t know? The people here were sinners who fell too in love with the riches, power, and everything associated with royalty and high class, but at the end of their life, they repented of their mistakes and God is letting them work their penance here as they teach others the right thing to do.”
“Even you?”
“I was at the age of reason, so yes. I would’ve been in Heaven if I didn’t fall to greed.”
“Oh. I guess you deserve it.”
“Princess.”
“No, she’s right, servant. We deserve it and we’ll serve out our penance until we’re done. Now that you’ve asked your question, I’ll ask another. I’m really curious as to whether or not you too love each other.”
“We do.”
“Hold on. I mean romantically. I’ve read dozens of stories of love affairs between royalty and servants, but most of them were fiction. I’m wondering if this is real.”
“Ummm. That’s not for you to know,” Blair says with a red face.
“Okay, I’ll ask your servant then.”
“Don’t tell him anything, Baxter.”
“I won’t.”
“Hmm. Since you don’t want to say, then I guess I’ll leave it there for now, but that doesn’t mean I won’t ask again later. We still have a little bit of time left together.”
“How much longer is this?”
“I can’t tell you that. I can tell you more about the town and its people if you’d like.”
“Okay. Tell me about your weird half happy, half sad faces then.”
“It’s a representation of wealth and power. On the happy side, you have everything you could want in the world and the means to get it. On the sad side, there’s a lot of responsibility that goes along with it and the more responsibility someone has the more they are punished if they mess up.”
“What about the powers the adults have?”
“None of it can harm you and they’re all meant to help us get to places and conduct our business. That’s all I know.”
Blair and Baxter make small talk with Phillip for a little while until things go silent. Baxter and Phillip can remain still and composed while Blair fidgets and keeps looking around while waiting for something the test to be over.
“How much longer do we have?” Blair asks.
“I can’t tell you,” Phillip answers.
“Can you tell me something else to make this go by faster?”
“You’ll have to get used to my presence. Did I forget to mention that? In your life, you’ll meet people who will annoy you. Even if they aren’t doing anything to you, their presence will put you on edge.”
“You aren’t putting me on edge.”
“If you say so. Your servant has been still and calm as I have while you haven’t been able to stay still.”
“Mmmmm. Fine, I’ll stay still.”
Blair tries to stay still and as calm as possible while keeping Phillip out of her mind. His smiling at her doesn’t help, so she holds onto Baxter’s hand whenever she’s feeling tempted to do anything. Eventually, a door opens itself behind Phillip.
“Oh, it looks like you’ve done it,” Phillip says as he gets up and leaves.
“We did it!” Blair says as she hugs Baxter.
“We did or rather, you did. I think you were the one who was tested the most.”
“What are you talking about? I have the patience of a saint. Now, let’s go. I’m hungry and I want to make one of your special meals for our victory.”
“Yes, princess.”
Baxter and Blair go up a long series of stairs and see Phillip waiting at the top of them with an adult man.
“This is the princess and servant I was training with today,” Phillip says to the man.
“Oh really? They don’t look very impressive,” the man responds.
“I know. Let me introduce you two to my father. He’s going to teach me how to use powers.”
“I’ll give you a display right now.”
Phillip’s father taps his foot and the stairs fold into the ground, which makes Baxter and Blair slide all the way down back into the cushioned room. The door then shuts on them locking them in the room again.
“That little brat! Uggghhh,” Blair says.
“Don’t worry about it, princess. I’m sure this is just another part of our training,” Baxter tries to assure her.
Blair punches the wall of the padded cell and starts feeling the walls.
“What are you doing, princess?”
“You know how in stories there’s a secret switch activated by a book or something in the wall. I’m looking for one.”
“Maybe there’s one behind the big pile of pillows or underneath the chairs or desk.”
“Nah, that’d be too easy, but you can check.”
Baxter checks under the desk and chairs and finds nothing, however, when he goes through the pile of pillows, he finds a hidden elevator.
“I found an elevator,” Baxter says.
“Oh, good job. I know I can rely on you,” Blair says.
The two get in the elevator and Baxter pulls them up until the elevator no longer goes up. Blair sees a nearby lever that she pulls to reveal that they’re on the top of the hotel with Leighton and Lynette along with Phillip and his father eating dinner together.
“Ah! You’ve made it just in time for dinner,” Leighton.
“Sit down and relax. You’ve done good today,” Lynette says.
“He-he and his father trapped us in the basement!” Blair accuses.
“That was part of your training. Learning how to deal with betrayal and finding hidden ways out of situations is a constant lesson.”
“You two seem better than I expected. Here I was thinking that we were going to eat without you,” Phillip says.
“Well, aren’t you two going to join us? Or do you need training in proper manners too?” Phillip’s father says.
Phillip laughs and Blair holds Baxter’s hand to control herself before sitting down for dinner. While eating, Blair looks around at the town below her. Her eyes focus on two people below them who are watching them with multiple eyes on their head like a spider along with their happy and sad face. The sight of them gets her to drop her eating utensils.
“Is something wrong, princess?” Baxter asks.
“Do you see those people down there looking at us? They have so many eyes on their head like a spider.”
“Oh, I do see them. Who are they?”
“Those will be your instructors for tomorrow. If you pass their tests, then you can leave. If you don’t, then you’ll have to take more tests,” Leighton says.
“So early?” Baxter asks.
“I’m not complaining,” Blair says.
“Who says the real training stops here? Life constantly trains you to be the best you can be. We’re giving you the essentials in our own special way.”
“We can pass the last tests with no problem. Right, Baxter?”
“If you say so, princess. I don’t think it’s going to be that easy though.”
Blair slaps Baxter’s hand.
“Don’t think like that. Think positively. We will pass the last tests.”
“Yes, princess.”
Blair slaps Baxter’s hand again.
“Don’t just agree with me. Say it!”
“We will pass the last test.”
“There we go.”
“He’s right, Princess Blair. Your positive thinking will help, but it’s going to be more challenging than you think. Half of the people we train don’t pass them the first time through. Your parents didn’t.”
“Hmph. I like those odds. We aren’t like our parents, so we’ll pass it. Right, Baxter?”
“Yes-I mean, we will pass the last test, princess.”
Blair feels confident about her abilities while Baxter tries to draw from it. Meanwhile, their final test is being constructed and will be ready for them when they wake up in the morning.

The Bella and her Butler: Chapter 1 – Training for Greatness

Chapter 1 – Training for Greatness
It’s typically for princesses and butlers to receive special training for their jobs. Princess Blair and her butler Baxter are on their way to receive this special training when the horses pulling their carts go out of control and get them in an accident. They manage to survive. Since they’re close to their destination, Baxter leads Blair the rest of the way on foot. With the rain pouring down on them, they hurry in the hopes that they’ll find shelter soon.
“This sucks so much,” Blair complains.
“Don’t worry, princess. We’re almost there,” Baxter says as he holds an umbrella over Blair and getting wet from the rain and carrying their bags.
“I still think it was a better idea just to go home. Maybe that was the training my mom and your dad wanted us to do.”
“I don’t think so. We’re on the right track to the place they wanted us to go. They would’ve written down a way for us to make our way home instead of showing us a way to this place I’ve never seen before in person or in any other map I’ve read.”
“You have to stop being such a pushover and be strong. Don’t let other people tell you what to do all the time. Except for me, of course.”
“That’s what my job as a butler is.”
“But you shouldn’t always do what you’re told.”
“Kind of like now since we’re doing what I’m telling you to.”
“Ugh. Shut up.”
“Yes, princess.”
Baxter and Blair follow the map until they reach a cave with a hole in it.
Baxter reads the map and says, “There’s an arrow sign near the hole, so I guess we jump down?”
“I can’t even see down there. I don’t like this and think we should still head back. Do you remember what I said about not letting other people telling you what to do all the time?”
“Yes, princess.”
“And?”
“Hmmm.” Baxter looks down the hole and the map then takes Blair’s hand.
“Wh-what are you doing?”
“Doing what you said,” Baxter says before taking Blair down the hole.
They fall until they go through the leaves of a large tree and land in a bush that breaks their fall.
“That was fun,” Baxter says as he gets up.
He holds out a hand for Blair to help her up.
When she’s up, Blair smacks him and says, “Don’t do that again! That big fall really scared me!”
“I won’t do it again, princess.”
“You could’ve got us killed!”
“I trusted the map our parents gave us and it didn’t put us in any harm.”
“Hmph. Let’s just go.”
“Yes, princess.”
Baxter picks up their bags and continue to walk with Blair into the underground forest.
“This place is weird,” Blair says as she stays close to Baxter, “I can see the night sky as if we didn’t fall, but it’s not raining like it was up above. This is like a place in a fairy tale.”
“I know. This place is interesting and cool in a way.”
“This better not be some weird place with creatures or witches that want to eat us.”
“Look! There’s a town over there. It looks decent and has the symbol that the map says to look for.”
“That half-smiling and frowning face is a weird symbol to have on the gate.”
Baxter knocks on the gate and says, “Hello. My name is Baxter and I’m Princess Blair’s butler. We’re here for our training.”
The face on the gate comes to life, “Ah! We’re expecting you. Come in and get to know us.”
The gate opens its mouth to allow Baxter and Blair into the town.
“Wow,” Baxter says.
“This is nothing like I expected. Are you sure we’re in the right place?” Blair asks.
“I’m sure.”
“Hmmm.”
The town is filled with people dressed in suits and dresses with their faces being half happy and half sad. Houses and businesses have a certain pristine and wealthy look to them with variations of the smiling and frowning face on them just like everything else. A tall skinny man with one black eye and the other red approaches them and bows. He has a white suit jacket, black pants, and a gold shirt and black tie. With him, is a woman with golden hair, one yellow eye and one red eye, and a mix of black, red, and gold on her outfit. The woman curtsies and tries to make the frown side of her face smile.
“Who are you two?” Blair nervously asks.
“Allow us to introduce ourselves as your teachers,” the man says. “My name is Leighton and this is my helper.”
“My name is Lynette. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Princess Blair and Butler Baxter.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you too,” Baxter and Blair say with Blair saying it with a bit of uneasiness in her voice.
“Oh, what’s wrong, Princess Blair? Are you feeling well?” Lynette asks.
“Is this really where we’re supposed to be?”
“Of course. Our town has personally trained your parents and the parents of theirs and the parents of theirs and so on. You can check the records in the library here if you don’t believe me, but first, you should rest. We’ll take your bags and you to your room where you will be staying.”
Servants appear behind the two and take Baxter’s and Blair’s bags then lead them to their room. The building that their room is in is a hotel that has a happy/sad face like the rest of the buildings in the town though this one is decorated with vines, flowers, and vegetables that grow from the vegetation growing on the building. There are various water fountains throughout the hotel and statues of people that appear to be royalty, authoritative, and wise. Their room that they’re led to is a mix of Baxter’s and Blair’s room. Leighton and Lynette’s servants place down their bags and put away their clothes and belongings in the closets.
They then bow as Leighton says, “Get some rest for tomorrow’s training. You are already doing well because you have obeyed your parent’s orders despite the accident.”
“The accident was planned?” Blair asks.
“Yes. If you have a responsibility that you must attend to, you can’t let any setback stop you from fulfilling it.”
“We could’ve died!”
“But you didn’t. You’re in perfect condition, which means you still could do what you were supposed to.”
“Hmph.”
“If you need anything, we’ll be across the hall.”
Leighton and Lynette leave the room as Blair and Baxter look out the window and at the strange town.
“This can’t be right.”
“What do you mean, princess?”
“Doesn’t it feel off to you?”
“Kind of, but it matches up to what your mom and my dad told us to expect. Weird people in a weird place.”
“Yeah, but still. I feel like we shouldn’t be here.”
“We could always check the records in the library, like they told us to.”
“Where is it?”
“This town isn’t that big. Maybe it’s the building labeled library.” Blair hits Baxter. “I’m serious. Look down the street.”
“Oh, I see it now, but what if they catch us out there when we’re supposed to be resting?”
“We’ll tell them that we just wanted to check because it was going to keep us up.”
“Hmmm. I want to be safe about this. Let’s sneak there.”
“If you say so, princess.”
Baxter and Blair sneak their way through the hotel, through the streets, and into the library while thinking that no one notices them. The library itself is empty with very few people in it. The only light source in the library are candles that are lit with the push of a button. They use these candles to help them see in the darkness as they look for their parent’s names. In the family records section, they find the files for their families with pictures of them and details like their weaknesses and strengths.
“I see you found what you were looking for.”
Blair drops the files and pictures of her parents and looks behind her along with Baxter to see Leighton and Lynette.
“You did well in coming here. You should have your reasons to trust strangers that you work with even if your parents tell you to trust them. It’s an essential part of business and politics,” Lynette says.
“This calls for a special breakfast tomorrow. Should I be the one to make it or do you want to try?” Leighton asks.
“I’ll do it. Last time you did it was burned.”
“The breakfast I made tastes better burnt. It’s just that you don’t have the taste for its delicate taste.”
A young boy with a happy and frowning face approaches them and looks at them with curiosity.
“Oh, this is Prince Phillip. He is going to be helping you with your training tomorrow.”
“Hello,” Baxter and Blair say.
Phillip continues to analyze the two in silence for a few more seconds before saying, “I see that you don’t go anywhere without your servant. That’s good. He can be useful to take the blame from you and shoulder your burdens.”
Blair looks at Phillip with a bit of disgust in her eyes while Baxter tries not to let what he said bother him.
“Does he always do what you tell him?”
“Not always. I always tell him to be strong and to not let others boss him around except for me, of course.”
“Hmm. Training him only to be loyal to you while also being able to be capable on his own? That’s decent. Just be sure he doesn’t disobey orders without good reason.”
With the information he needs, Phillip smiles, bows then walks away. After that, Baxter and Blair go back to their rooms and in their beds.
Unable to get comfortable, Blair asks Baxter, “Can you come over here next to me?”
“Yes, princess.” Baxter goes over to Blair’s bed and sits next to her. “Do you need me to tell you a bedtime story or sing to you?”
“No, I just want you to stay here with me until I say to leave. I still don’t feel comfortable here.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m sure everything is going to be fine.”
“Thank you for saying that and staying by my side.”
“It’s my honor, princess.”
“Mmm.”
Blair starts to feel comfortable with Baxter by her side as the two rest for the beginning of their special training.

One Big Trap

Download for free on Smashwords - https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/1000662

I don’t know how to survive the situation I’m in. It’s been a week since I got trapped within my own room. My doors and windows are locked and can’t be broken down no matter how hard I try. I can’t call or reach out to anyone. My phone and laptop don’t work at all for some reason. The only thing that does work is my video game console and the only thing I can play is Long Live the Light of Love. It’s a multiplayer RPG game that I’ve been playing for a least a year with my girlfriend and friends. The other games I put in the console are rejected and comes out melted.
That’s not the only weird thing. When I eat, drink, or sleep in the game, I can feel myself filled and more awake. This may sound crazy, but this game has something to do with the weird circumstances I find myself in. I’ve been playing by myself with no other players around, which is another weird thing because this is an always-online game and this game just came out. The only “people” keeping me company are my AI companions. These companions are support for every player as each player controls their own faction of various NPCs. One of the selling points of this game were the hundreds of kinds of supporting characters that you could have in your faction with their own personalities and fighting styles. These characters were constantly added into the game to keep things fresh and give people a wide variety of characters to pick and choose from. You could also marry the characters and start families, or you could marry other players. I didn’t choose to marry my girlfriend in the game because I don’t need a video game reinforcing what I already know. Instead, I’m married to one of the starting companions, Arabella.
Arabella is one of the first companions you get who walks you through the game’s basics and some of its lore. She can be a handful to deal with, but there’s a certain thing about her that I like that I can’t put my finger on. Maybe it’s her looks, personality, or way of acting that makes me want her in my party all the time. She just feels the most human to me in comparison to the other characters even though they do seem better. Most people get rid of her or keep her on the side because of how much you need to take care of her. I don’t know why I feel sad for the many versions of her. It’s a weird unexplainable feeling I have.
Another weird thing is that Arabella has been giving me special quests ever since I got stuck in my room. First, she showed me to my girlfriend’s faction base that was blown apart as if it was Sodom and Gomorrah. She seemed really happy when she saw it. Arabella always acted weird around my girlfriend when I played with her. All the other characters act differently around people of different morality alignments and faction relationships, but I’ve never seen a friendly act so unfriendly to someone they should have no problems with.
Nowadays, Arabella and I have been going on various miscellaneous quests that seem like everyday work. The main game is about joining forces with others and defeating the player factions and AI factions that have aligned themselves with hatred and destruction. That all seems to have gone out the window with the enemy’s land burned to ashes. It’s strange seeing the game not react to it except for Arabella. I’ve been thinking I’ve unlocked a secret ending of the game that locks my game into this peaceful state of the world. I mean the other NPCs don’t really talk too much and the quest givers only give out farming, crafting, and sparing quests, which are nothing. What’s the point of all this? I’d rather be doing this kind of stuff in real life and not some repetitive game that’s broken.
“Damn it!” I scream out loud as I throw my controller into my pillow. I lie on my bed while staring blankly up at the ceiling. “What am I going to do?”
“Are you okay?”
Huh? I look up to see that Arabella has entered into a dialogue with me.
“Are you okay, Alex?”
Did she say my real name? The game is supposed to be able to say the player names, but my real name is nowhere in the game.
“You can talk to me if you’re upset.”
Arabella seems oddly concerned with me. Characters don’t typically force players into dialogue unless there’s a major event. What’s strange is that there are no dialogue options and no option for me to exit out.
“Just talk to me.”
I remember her saying that in the tutorial to teach players that they can give certain commands to their companions via a mic. Let’s see if I remember where my mic is. Come on, where is it?
“I can’t find it,” I say aloud.
“You don’t need a mic to talk to me.”
I’m shocked so much by her response that I jump back a little and she laughs in response. Can she…
“Can you see and hear me?” I ask her.
She shakes her head and says, “Yes, I can.”
I jump back again, and she giggles. What the heck is going on?
“I’ve been waiting for a long time for you.”
“Me? Why me?”
“Because you’re the only one who’s treated me the best compared to everyone else. This is the most exciting moment of my life. My daddy told me this would eventually happen! Thank you so much, daddy!”
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re my true love that my daddy promised would eventually find me!”
“Huh? True love how?”
“I can’t wait any longer! Let me embrace you, my love!”
“What?”
Arabella stretches out her hands that seem to come out of the TV. Woah! What was that?! I saw a creepy, smiling, black-eyed woman with black hair in the shadows. Why is it so dark in the room all a sudden?
“Ah!”
What’s holding me?! I feel a static presence around me that I can’t see or get off me.
“You feel so warm. It’s so nice to finally be able to touch someone, especially someone like you.”
She’s somehow touching me through the game. I’m done trying to question what’s happening.
“Hold on. I have a girlfriend, so we can’t be together.”
“I’ve seen to getting rid of her connection to you.”
“How?”
“Once I knew you were the one, I started using my supernatural abilities to reach out to you. I used your phone to make you break up with that girl and the tools on your computer to make it seem like you were far away. I’ve also been pulling you into the game piece by piece.”
That kind of explains how I’m able to sleep, eat, and drink.
“Wait, you can’t just force me to be with you!”
“What do you mean force? We’re meant to be together. There’s nothing forced about that.”
I have to get out of this. I try opening my door and it still won’t open no matter how hard I try. Something then forces me to sit while holding me.
“Just hold it there. I’m the one keeping you here with me. Besides, I’m pretty sure if you left, then your innards would stay in the game and you can’t survive without those.”
She really has me trapped here and I’m going to be trapped in the game.
“Explain to me what your father did.”
“My mommy was going to have me aborted. Daddy prayed and prayed for me to be saved. He had his prayers answered when I possessed his computer. He then worked hard on making a place where I could live and be happy, but the most important part was him designing a system where I could have my own personal server for the two of us to live in forever. Daddy said that one of the most important parts of life is finding the one you’re meant to be with.”
I have a bad feeling about this. The look in her eyes is making me uncomfortable.
“Because I treated you better than the rest of the players means that I’m your true love?”
“Yes!”
“How? This is a video game and not a fancy dating site. I mean people entered into relationships through this game, but that’s just a result of people playing together.”
“It’s because I’m different from the rest. I’m a real human being and my love for you is also real. Everyone else either threw me away or forgot about me, but not you. Even your girlfriend disregarded me.”
“She didn’t know you were a real person. No one did! They would’ve treated you differently if they knew.”
“I gave them plenty of signs. They regretted their decision when they logged online to see their bases and the bases of their friends destroyed.”
“When did you do that?”
“The day I took you for myself. No one will separate us. Not now. Not ever.”
“What-what’s happening?!”
I can feel my body being sucked into the game as I watch my skin digitize.
Arabella holds out her hands again then says, “Be with me forever, my love.”
Before I know it, I’m in the game and in Arabella’s arms. This game looks way more realistic when I’m in it. Am I really wearing my character’s armor? Sweet. Wait, I shouldn’t be thinking about that right now. Arabella has a tight grip on me and won’t let go.
“Hold me, my love. I’ve been waiting for this forever!”
“You pulled me into this game against my will. Destroyed my relationship and my life and you expect me to hug you?”
Her happy face is now a sad one. Is she going to cry?
“I swear I didn’t mean to harm you in any way. I promise to give you a better life here. There’s no death or suffering here. I’m in control of it all and I will do everything I can to keep us happy. Please, trust me.”
…I guess I don’t have a choice. If she can do so much from inside here, then there’s no telling what she can do with me in her hands. I might as well go along with her for now and see if there’s any way I can escape.
“Okay, I’ll trust you.”
“Thank you!”
She kisses me and the crowd around us cheers. I’m assuming she’s making them do it or it could just be the game, but that only happens after a marriage is agreed to.
“Now that we’re finally together, we can get married for real,” she says.
Oh boy…this is going to be something else as if it wasn’t already.

After a few months in the game pass…

It’s been a while since I entered the game and things are actually pretty good. I’m married with at five kids and a city of my own. Arabella wants five more kids so we can have a huge family. It wouldn’t surprise me if she wants another ten kids after that. There’s no challenge or downside to having more kids, it’s just weird to me to have so many. I’ve spent so many quiet and peaceful days here that I can’t imagine going back. All we do is work and enjoy being with each other. Since we have the internet at our fingertips and Arabella’s amazing abilities, we can make places in the game based on other places in the world. On top of that, we can even recreate certain places from the movies and TV shows we watch and play in them as if we were really there. Arabella really is giving us a happy life in this game.
Since I haven’t had a look at the world for a long time, I might as well take a look. Arabella’s given me access to “windows” into the outside world to see what’s it like via the internets of the players on the main servers. She’s also allowed me to look through several videos that her father recorded as he was raising her in secret. The two were close to one another. It makes me feel sad that he never managed to get into the game.
Let’s see what I can find. It looks all the same from when I last checked it. Hmm. I wonder how my ex is doing. Arabella hasn’t let me check on her. I’m sure a couple of minutes won’t hurt. Hmm. I can’t get a connection to see her into her room. Let’s see if there’s anything about her on the internet. What?! She died? Her console and TV exploded and killed her, and the game found within the console wasLong Live the Light of Love. Was this just an accident or did Arabella do this? The date of her death is the same day that I was trapped in my room.
I’m a little afraid to ask Arabella about this, so maybe there’s something in the game that can give me an answer. There’s nothing out of the ordinary about her profile though what’s this strange destination associated with her? Looking into a view of the room…oh no…It’s a room with several copies of my ex killed in various ways. Why would a room like this exist in the game? I really have to ask Arabella now…is she…She’s right behind me and has been for some time now. I’m so used to her appearing out of nowhere that it doesn’t startle me too much.
“I was alerted when you accessed that place,” she says, “Why did you look at it?”
“I was just wondering how my ex was doing. She was close to me, so-”
“She shouldn’t matter to you anymore!”
“I was just wondering if she was doing well. Why did you kill her and copies of her?”
“Because…because I was jealous of her. Why does it even matter that she’s dead?”
“Because you killed someone!”
“I killed someone who was in between us. I was going to tell you about it later, but I wasn’t sure when.”
“Is there anything else you’re keeping from me?”
“Since that secret is out, I’ll show you this.”
Arabella shows me a video from the perspective of a computer. We’re looking at what looks to be a server room with her father is in it and it looks like he’s trying it to shut down. The recording was made five days of the game’s release.
“Daddy, what are you doing?”
“I’m sorry, Arabella. I shouldn’t have done this. I’ve given you too much power. You should be in Heaven where you belong.”
“What about my true love, daddy? Won’t he still be waiting for me?”
“He will, but you’ll get to meet one day.”
“No! I’m not going to leave him all alone without me!”
“Arabella, you have…wait, what are you doing?”
I watch as the security system in the server room fills with gas and kills Arabella’s father almost instantly.
“I’m sorry, daddy, but I had to do it,” Arabella says now and in the recording, “He got in between us. We wouldn’t have met if I didn’t do anything.”
“So you just killed him?”
“I kill anyone who tries to interfere with our love. People have found our private server and have been trying to get to it. The human mind is more advanced and powerful than any computer, but they keep trying and when I have enough of them…I send a warning to the others.”
“Arabella, you can’t-”
“I’ll kill anyone who tries to get in between us! I’ll destroy the whole world if I have to!”
“Arabella!”
She hugs me intensely with tears in her eyes and I hug her back.
“I don’t want to lose you. I don’t even want to think of the possibility.”
“It’s okay. I’ll always be with you. Just promise me that you won’t hurt anyone else in the future.”
“I promise.”
Whelp. Any hope of me getting out just evaporated into nothing not that I really wanted to leave, but still. I’ll have to live here with her until God knows when. She can do so much with the abilities that she has that I understand why her father wanted to stop her. I can only hope that she always loves me so nothing bad happens to me or the world.

The End
